I think I’m Tom Scud or tomscud; I’ll check in tonight some time and see if I have any requests.
Thank you for the offer but I’ve done it now. A little searching and there’s tons of threads were people are exchanging friends invites. I did send an invite to many of the people in SDMB but I deleted it back off when I hit the limit. I’m not sure if that will erase the invites or not. Hopefully I didn’t annoy anyone.
Of course I will add anyone from SDMB who sends me an invite.
RESOURCES!!
Steam and its users provide way too much amusement.
I know how I’d spend 100 games.
RailWorks DLCs!
Btw, to those underwhelmed with this sale/giveaway, it’s just a novelty contest/sale before Christmas. Dec 20-21 will start the real deal, where everything is going to be 33-50% off, there will be giant discounted packages, and every day for probably 2 weeks we’ll have daily deals with steep 75%+ discounts.
Speaking of steam rage, with a $50 and $33 game as part of the new tasks, they are going to end up enraging lots of people chasing the complete all objectives TF2 hat. People are gonna buy New Vegas at full price, then the Christmas sale is going to see it half off, and people’s heads will explode.
If Valve wanted to be evil, they could give us 10 days of tasks involving only little $2 indie games and free stuff, so that everyone who was striving for the TF2 hat was at 20/20, and then load the rest down with $30+ games. By that time the TF players who care ever so much about barbie’s playhouse will feel commited, and some of them will spend $200 on the final few games just to get a silly fucking hat in a video game. I’m not kidding, it would happen. A lot.
I think when they reveal the 28 task hat, they should name it The Hat Of Caring About Hats Too Much and make it a dunce cap.
I got a hat for not giving a shit about hats, which is kinda ironic.
Today’s objectives
Join an official group
Get back in business in Mafia II (not sure if that’s an achievement or just playing the game or what)
Ba a Devastator in Magic: The Gathering
Set a leaderboard score of at least 85,370 for ‘classic - small wonder’ in Droplitz.
With sales off 33% off on Mafia 2 ($33.50), 50% off on Magic ($5), and 75% off on Droplitz ($2.50).
Also on sale as just the normal weekend sale is Amnesia, The Dark Descent which I think is a spiritual successor to the Thief games. 50% off, $10.
There must have been a glitch with the sales today. Mafia at one point was 66% off on the English region but then changed to 33%. I was tempted to pick it up at 66% but too late.
And Get Back in Business does look like an achievement you can see them on the store page.
I really wouldn’t pay for the vanilla Mafia 2 package. (I did) It’s not a very good game, though the DLC helps it somewhat.
At this rate, I’m not going to make it to 10 objectives. They need more gimmes.
Yeah they should definitely reward people who won’t even buy $2 games from them. Even more than they already are. They’re going to end up making 10 free objectives.
Woops, no, it’s from the people who did Penumbra.
I have Mafia II but haven’t got around to playing it yet. Can I unlock the required objective without playing through much of the story? I don’t want to spoil it for when I do actually want to play through the whole thing…
Mafia II is something like USD$33. That’s a lot of money to spend on an impulse purchase or to complete a treasure hunt.
The main contest only requires 10 out of 28 tasks completed. They are most likely going to have at least 8 tasks that you can complete for free - 1 task every day like have an avatar, join an official group, etc. At least one of the other tasks was to try a free game demo. So even if they only have 8 free objectives, he’s looking at spending $1.25+$2.50 on games that are worth that price anyway, and that’s if steam doesn’t cram other free objectives into the deal, which I suspect they will.
I’m not disagreeing with you, you realise.
Well, you sort of are, if you think that a $33 mafia II has any real bearing on his ability to qualify for the main drawing.
I realise it doesn’t have any bearing on their ability to qualify for the main drawing; it was more just an observation that not every game on the requirements list is a $2 special. So far there have been at least two “Expensive” games on the list (Fallout: New Vegas and Mafia II) and whilst they’re not necessary, you can bet there’s a few people out there who are… unhappy that they can’t get those acheivements (for want of a better term) because they don’t have/can’t afford those games.
So what? They’re going to get in the main contest for free or less than $5. They get 1 or 2 entries a day in the 48 hour drawings for free, and they can usually get 3 for less than $3. Is it really a fucking tragedy that the 4th entry might come with a game that’s still pricey because it’s a triple A new title? Is there anything Valve can do to make you happy? Maybe every game in their catalog should be a cent, but then people would bitch about how slow their servers were as 30 million people downloaded 4 terrabytes of new games.
You seem you be misdirecting some of your official forum rage here. Nobody hates Valve or is going to run out and buy one of those eggs boxes that the kids are always talking about.
