Steam's 5-day-long 1-day only sale

Well, Red Faction, for instance, requires that I limit my memory to under 2gb for it to work. At least that’s what the forum says. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m pretty sure that will fix my problem.

Dawn of War, when I double click it will bring up steams “loading” window but after trying to load it, that window closes without giving me any error message. The game, however, never comes up. Same happens with the expansions Winter Assault and Dark Crusade. Soulstorm seems to be installing so there’s some hope.

Here are the new games for today.

Madballs in Babo: Invasion - $2.00
Majesty 2 - $9.99
Mini Ninjas - $14.99
Star WarsL Knights of the Old Republic - $2.49
Cities XL Limited Edition - $24.99
Left 4 Dead 2 - $37.49
Dead Space - $14.99

Thanks for this thread. I finally bought a retail copy of Champions Online, before they took it off the sale list.

Darn, I knew I should have waited before buying Majesty 2 at its full retail price.

How do you like the game?

Well, that deal finally swung me for L4D2. See you guys in 4 hours. >:3

SenorBeef, you are now my most favorite guy! Gotta get that THQ pack even though I already own all the DoW 1 Expansions…Titan’s Quest and DoW2! Holy crap!

Same. I was hoping it would show up. Now I don’t have to find 3 others to go in on a 4-pack

I bought Majesty 2 today, it’s a bit hectic but I quite like it, at £6 I can’t complain. I bought Plants vs Zombies earlier in the week which was excellent value for money. I’m looking forward to the next few days.

These deals are a great opportunity for me to pick up games that sound interesting but not exciting enough to pay full price for.

If anyone picks up the THQ pack and wants to play DoW 2 my steam ID is BurnedToast (I’m in the SDMB group) and my GFWL ID is GFWLBurnedToast.

I’ve also got CoH and the original Dawn of War around here somewhere, I could reinstall them if there is a lot of doper interest in playing either of them.

Also just a heads up - barns & noble and gamestop both have L4D2 for $30 which even after shipping is probably a few bucks cheaper then steam’s sale. Dunno if it’s worth waiting a week to get it to save a few bucks, but it’s an option.

I’ve been playing through the company of heroes single player to learn the gameplay, I think I’m going to learn that first - hopefully there’s still an active playerbase, and this sale probably rejuvinated it. It’s the most intuitively appealing both because the gameplay so far is really fun and I’m well aware of the WW2 universe (even if the game is a cartoony representation of it) but know nothing about the DoW universe.

If someone new also wants to try some games together (whether adversarial so we can try it without getting stomped by more experienced players, or some sort of coop vs computer thing) my ID on the relic games server is senorbeef, and that’s my steam ID too.

I figured out how to get Red Faction running and started off playing that first. Not the greatest game but it isn’t so bad once you get used to it.

If you’re having trouble playing the game, go to www.purefaction.org and download the patch from there.

I’m kinda tempted to buy Resident evil 5 at 50% off. Does anyone here tried the PC version, and does it work OK?

Are there still people on Dope playing Borderlands? Do you connect with other players directly through Steam like in L4D or TF2, or does Borderlands have it’s own matchmaking program?

Borderlands has a really crappy matchmaking thing going for it. Over half the games are hosted by people with firewalls so it takes a while to actually find a game to connect to.

A bunch of people still play though.

Today’s deals:

Trine $10
Spore $20
Bordlernads $33.50
Order of War $10
Ghostbusters $10
Cities of Heroes Architect Edition $10
Resident Evil 5 $25
Left 4 Dead $7.50

Borderlands is a fun game. It doesn’t have matchmaking as such - when you enter the multiplayer section of the game there’s a lobby listing all public games with slots open. I’ve only played by hosting private games and inviting my friends from the internal friendslist. Good value at a third off. Edit: It looks like the 4 pack is discount too, so that if you can get 3 friends together and pool your money, you can get 4 copies for $100 at $25 each.

$7.50 for L4D is amazing value of course. Even though the sequel is better in pretty much every way, if for some reason you don’t have L4D yet due to cost reasons or you want to try the game cheaply before deciding if the sequel is worth it, you can’t beat that price.

Spore I never got around to playing due to the clusterfuck surrounding the copy protection thing, but I would imagine the steam version only has steam authentication so I may grab it.

I’m installing the demo for Trine right now to see how it is. The description didn’t really excite me much but the demo is free so I’ll give it a shot. Plus, it has a metascore of 80.

Just picked up Borderlands for $35 bucks. I’d hoped to get Arkham Asylum, but obviously I missed that deal.

Of course, it’s not like I’m ever going to have time to, you know, *play *the thing, what with Champions Online and Dragon Age.

Spore On Steam Has No SecuROM

EA officially on Steam, Spore loses SecuROM

I’m not sure if no SecuRom means you don’t have to validate the game on EA’s own servers.

Trine has a demo right there on the steam page. I’ve been playing it. It seems like a fun game - I haven’t played a platformer game in… a decade maybe? But it has good art, a physics system, and puzzles. And you switch into 3 different characters with different abilities, which makes for fun gameplay. I may get it… does anyone here own it? How much gameplay time is available in the full version?

Anyway I recommend giving the demo a try.

That(the demo) was another game I couldn’t get to launch. :frowning:
