It sounds like you have some weird issue like a bad driver or something, because I’m not having any problems with any of the games and neither is anyone I know besides you.
I’ve reinstalled and updated my video card drivers already. I’m thinking it’s an issue with Windows 7, 64x.
New deals today:
Battlefield 2: Complete collection $15
Eve Online: Apocraypha $5
Lucidity $2.50
Prince Of Persia $15
World of Goo $5
Trackmania United Forever $20
Guild Wars trilogy $25
Battlefield 2 is still going strong and is probably the best game of its type, even if it has some retarded unfortunate flaws. I don’t own any of the other games, but people seem to like the guild wars games and 3 games for $25 is a lot of value. I’ll probably grab world of goo after I try the demo - people seem to like it a lot.
World of Goo is definitely worth $5.
I’m on the verge of grabbing that THQ pack. I loved DOW1 and never got around to playing the sequel.
I bought Lucidity today based on the fact that it was made by the same people who did the Monkey Island Special Edition.
I would recommend it to anyone that likes the visual style and the ‘game as art’ mentality of games like Braid. I would say that it is certainly worth the $2.50.
How are the Prince of Persia games?
I’ve only played the first one but it is still one of my favorite platformers ever. I am also not sure how well the games were ported to PC, though I imagine that as long as you play with a game pad it would play fine.
The first one worked just fine on a computer without a game pad.
And the last day of deals:
Dawn of Disccovery $35
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena $10
Section 8 $25
Quantz $2
Secrets of Monkey Island: Special Edition $2.50
Mirror’s Edge $5
Evil Genius $2.50
Call of Juaraez: Bound in Blood $21
Mirror’s edge for 5 bucks looks like the best deal - my friends tell me it’s good.
Haven’t played or looked into any of the others yet.
If my PC can handle it, I’ll definitely grab Mirror’s Edge. And Evil Genius is certainly worth $2.50.
These deals got kind of weak after the first day there.
There were some pretty good deals - just probably for stuff you already owned.
I personally got the THQ pack, Trine, Osmos, World of Goo, KOTOR, Mirror’s edge, and maybe another one or two of today’s games. I’m happy - that’s hundreds of hours of gaming for $80. There were more I would’ve gotten if I hadn’t already owned them.
Of course I bought Left 4 Dead 2 a week ago for $50, and now they drop the price. Oh well! I picked up World of Goo yesterday and I’m debating whether or not to get the Secret of Monkey Island special edition. I downloaded a DOS version but DOS emulators are a PITA on 64 bit Vista, and I couldn’t figure out how to save the game.
The special edition, from the description, sounds like they redid the whole thing from the ground up with modern arts and graphics, but that it has the same story/features/etc of the first game.
If you have any affinity for the Monkey Island series I would seriously advocate getting the special edition. Not only did they beautifully redo the artwork for the game, they also voiced the entire thing with the cast from the last three games in the series.
They also have a very entertaining feature that allows you to seamlessly switch between the old game and the new so you can compare the two at the press of a button.
Hmm, my friend recommended the Riddick game, but then I saw:
Languages: English
3rd-party DRM: TAGES™
3 machine activation limit
What the hell? Steam has third party DRM as an option there? Those stupid douchebags probably just cost themselves a sale. Invasive DRM scares me off - and I’m guessing I’m not alone - this stupid shit costs them customers. Steam has non-intrusive DRM built into the system, I don’t need some unknown third party bullshit possibly screwing with my system on top of that.
What the hell?
I bought the Riddick game (based largely on the reviews of the first game - Escape from Butcher Bay, which is included) and never bothered to check on the DRM. It’s right there up front - my bad for not checking, but I’ve been lulled into a sense of security with Steam. They should have some sort of agreement with developers: if you want to sell your game via Steam, use Steam DRM and no others.
Now I’m scouring the Steam user forums to find out how bad this TAGES BS really is. Crap.
It’s probably not something to be concerned about, but the increasingly invasive (and yet still ineffective) DRM they’ve been trying lately scares me off. I sometimes pirate games I otherwise intended to buy because the pirated version comes without some intrusive DRM that may or may not cause some sort of headache for me later (and hence ends up being a superior product). I don’t think I’ll do that in this case, but they did probably cost themselves a sale here.
Well they would have lost a sale if I had paid attention.
With a gaming rig at home, one at the GF’s place and a laptop for the road, I’ll hit their stupid 3-installation limit in a week. There is some mention of each install re-setting after 30 days, but I’ve seen no independent confirmation of that.
And like you, I like to keep my system(s) as clean as possible, and crap like TAGES just mucks everything up.
Oh, well. Not much I can do at this point but hopefully spread my activations out as I play all of the other ridiculously good deals I got during the sale.
