He’s not been charged with manslaughter. It’s currently irrelevant whether he could be found guilty of it were he charged. There’s no way he can be found guilty of murder, there’s not even a case to answer there. If it even gets to court, it will probably be thrown right out, and if not the jury will laugh at it. Thought experiment: Zimmerman’s cell phone records have not been released to the public. But the prosecution has seen them. During trial, his texting records are introduced into evidence, and they include texts he sent shortly before calling the police, saying “I finally have a chance to plug a coon! There’s a black kid sniffing around houses and I have my gun,” and a text shortly after leaving the police station saying, “No worries, they sent me home with no charges, what a joke. I just had to tell them I was afraid of the spook, as if that skinny coon could make me worry ha!”

But this one is an interesting case(Hbns)…it’s more important that SYG be reformed than look at the dynamics of this case. SYG is a smokescreen.
My point earlier was that SYG is not the issue here–it’s the underlying bigotry in the lackluster police investigation and underlying racism that is behind many of the things that are being said about Martin.
Even a well known criminal justice professor went on National TV and said point by point how SPD fucked up. They could have arrested Zimmerman if they wanted. They could have confiscated his weapon immediately if they wanted.
