Stephen Furst has died.

So, so many Babylon 5 actors have died.

Zack Allen
Stephen Franklin

And now poor Vir. :frowning:

Awww, I really liked Vir.

Nooooooooooooo! :frowning: :frowning:

Flounder!!!

Not Flounder! Aw man, this is NOT great!

I will always picture him looking up at a head on a spike and waving.

From Animal House?

Yes, though I’ve never seen that movie. Only Babylon 5 for me.

*Morden: What do you want?
Vir Cotto: I’d like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up at your lifeless eyes and wave like this.
[gives a mockingly cheerful finger waggle]
Vir Cotto: Can you and your associates arrange this for me, Mr. Morden? *

A toast… to absent friends, in memory still bright.

Must be time for Mrs Hufnagel’s medication.

RIP, Chubs!

Goodnight, sweet Vir.

Vir is latin for ‘Man’, and Stephen Furst’s character was the everyman trapped in a much larger and more difficult situation than any of us would care to be in. At the end, he became Emperor of a people who had risen from their own decadence to reclaim their former glory and paid a very high price for their sins.

He’ll always be Dr Axelrod from St Elsehwere to me. What a shame.

Axelrod and Flounder both for me. He was also in the video for I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister, in which he finally gets to spray Mark Metcalf, who played Niedermeyer in Animal House, in the face with a seltzer bottle.

ETA: They gotta let him into heaven. He’s a legacy.

Sic Transit Vir.

Edit: I’m watching Animal House in Mr. Furst’s honor.

Such a shame. I love how he sold Vir’s transformation from timid and bumbling to a man (well, Centauri) of real stature.

He directed a few episodes of B5 as well.

I remember him as Flounder and Vir on Babylon 5.

It’s been a few years, but I recall he dropped the weight and was exercising. IIRC he was much fitter the last season of B5 and got quite thin afterward.

I’m kind of surprised he died so young.

He was very good at playing shy and socially awkward characters. Very good character actor.

His best moment in B5 was fulfilling a early season vow. He wiggled his fingers at the dead bad guy, Morden. I think his head was on a pike?
RIP

Whoa, Vir and Flounder were the same guy? I never would have guessed.

aceplace57, he waved. Like this.

Once upon a time, I saw rules for a Babylon 5 drinking game. Three of the entries were “Sip whenever Vir does something cowardly. Sip whenever he does something brave. Chug whenever he does both at once.”

Vir had that odd finger wave. Thanks for the clip. It’s been at least 15 years.

Absolutely Flounder, too. He had my favorite line from the whole movie “This is gonna be great!” I use it all the time.
