Stephen King fans -- alert!

In response to Wal-Mart’s discounting of best sellers, Amazon has reduced its price for King’s new book (Under the Dome) to $9. $9! For a $35 hardcover!

The advance reviews I’ve seen have all been positive. That’s the important part.

I’m psyched!

No shit. I love Amazon. Actually, thanks for the heads up, I didn’t even notice he had a new book coming out.

ETA: Just read the synopsis… sounds very interesting. Is this more science fiction than horror? Because I love his SF.

Awesome. I’ve never per-ordered anything from Amazon before. Will it ship the day the book comes out?

Is it SF? I don’t know. I haven’t found any in-depth, analytical reviews. Mostly people are talking about the length (1,074 pages) and the dust jacket (a special process that gives it a layered look). They’re saying it’s a good read, but that’s all I’m finding.

Of course this is the one time I’m somewhere around third in line at the library.

Sometimes they ship earlier, so the book might arrive on the day it comes out in stores. I think Amazon did that for some of the Potter titles.

Amazon’s estimated delivery is between the 16th and 18th of Nov.

Just in time for my birthday. Thanks!

I do feel like an ass for rushing this and not finding another purchase to avoid the shipping charges, though.

I finally signed up for Amazon Prime. $80 a year, no shipping charges on eligible items, and everything ships in 2 days. I’ve used it for books, DVDs, vacuum cleaner bags, puppy chew toys, plumbing supplies – all kinds of stuff.

If you hate having anything spoiled for you, you might want to avoid the “tags” section on this book’s Amazon page. It may not be a spoiler at all, but two people have the book tagged…

…which seems totally random for this book, you know? It makes me wonder if that’s not the blurb in the synopsis about a character hiding a dark secret in the pantry was referring to. I hope not, especially if that ends up being a real plot point. Plus, those things scare me!

$9 for a new hardback? Ordered! Thanks! I also ordered Diana Gabaldon’s new book too so I could get the free Super Saver shipping.

From some of the reviews I’ve read it looks like he’s reworked an old Twilight Zone episode and padded it out to inordinate length. I hope that’s not the case but I find that King often disappoints with his books these days.

Meh. When I told my hubby (who has liked a few King books, but is certainly not the fan I am) about the plot outline, he said “Oh, that plot’s been done so many times!”
Well, duh. It’s all been done before.
For me, when it comes to King, it’s not what the story’s about, but who the story’s about. He writes about people. When he gets it right (and he gets it right often enough to keep me coming back), his characters are just so. . .good.

As for people saying King is ‘losing his stuff’, well, I’m not sure he’s any worse than he ever was. It’s just that stuff he couldn’t have ever gotten published before he was Stephen King, he can get published now.

I just set it up so they send me toilet paper every three months. Genius! Also: cases of Muir Glen diced tomatoes. I use 'em all the time, I sometimes can’t find them… I am so excited about this whole “Amazon subscription” thing, plus my Prime. I swore I’d never do Prime, but now that I have, god, I spend so much damned money.
