Stephen Colbert wouldn’t behave like this - he’d just acknowledge the joke bombed without blaming the audience.
Singular; the character Stephen Colbert plays on his show is a somewhat bombastic emotional sort who occasionally yells names in impotent anger. A running gag is that whenever he mentions Barry Manilow (who beat out Colbert for an Emmy), he shakes his fist and yells a mock-infuriated “Manilow!” Lately, he’s expanded the repertoire to include “Rickles!” (someone else who beat him at Emmy-time) and pretty much anyone else that’ll get a laugh from the audience.
What’s the opposite of ‘an apt comparison’?
