Well, that royally sucks. He was probably best known in the US for Preacher and Punisher, but I remember his early 80s 2000AD work on Dredd, Rogue Trooper and Mean Arena: The Law Loves You. Rest in peace, Steve, may all your angels have cheekbones you can open tins on.
Goddamnit.
I first noticed his work on the strip Tyranny Rex. Clean lines, a master of expressions, and a wicked sense of humour.

Fantastic artist; loved his work on Preacher.
RIP Mr. Dillon.
First Darwyn Cooke, now Steve Dillon. I want a refund on this year, cos it fucking sucks.
Aw, yeah, Tyranny Rex. I wasn’t always sure what that strip was about, but it sure looked good.
When he was only 18!
For some reason I also remember his odd little strip Hap Hazzard.
I loved Hap Hazzard, it was so sweet and charming when every other new strip was trying a bit too hard to be relevant and edgy. And I found a great summary of Steve Dillon’s 2000AD career here.
