Ah, but I’m taking such a pounding at the new site, that I went over to the old site, sold some stocks. It did my ego good to make a profit again. So I don’t mind if the old game stays around.
I am still learning how the new site works and I will post new features as I discover them. Try this out:
Portfolio To Go
View your portfolio then click the “Portolio to Go” hypertext above the right side of your portfolio. A small Javascript window will open that will show your holdings and automatically update them every 5 minutes so you can stay at the SDMB while staying on top of your stocks in (almost) real time!
Very cool.
Arggggggg. Can’t start over now, I bought some major stocks right when they were at the bottom and was making a hefty profit on it. sighs At least I bought the same one for my real portfolio.
I second that suggestion.
I don’t have anything against starting a new thread… I just don’t see a compelling reason to do it.
Anyone have one?
The new site seems to be fucked as well, at least for the moment. It keeps giving me “Internal Server Error” when I try to join the SDMB game. I guess I’ll try again later.
Neatness? No confusion?
Unca-Brew, I am getting the same errors. I have already fired off some letters to the webmaster. I will see what has happened when I get back from lunch.
So you can’t join, big deal. I have been trying to sell to cover a loss I’m taking on a short!
Grrrrrrrr…
JFTR- I was trying to say above that I had found a major flaw in the program after I responded to puglvr’s post.
Before then, I was caught up in trying to beat the market with any edge I found. I was planning on dropping out after I found the flaw, but didn’t know how to brouch the topic.
Anyway, I’m glad it’s moving and will try again over there. Hope there are no hard feelings, no Tom-foolery was intended on my part.
Don’t worry about it, I doubt the SEC investigators will give you a maximum jail term.
The reason I think a new thread might be a good idea is that after 5 pages or so, threads get laggy and slow. Also, if we start a Teemin Millionaires Stock market Game Mark II with a brand new thread, maybe that will attract some new people.
Either way is fine with me. I’m kicking ass at the new site, up over $14,000 at the moment with mostly the same stocks I had at the old site!
Interesting. I didn’t even realise that could be going on. I was buying most of my stocks after hours, as I generally don’t get up until 12pm PST. I like to think that had nothing to do with my performance however.
Meanwhile, I can’t see rankings on the new game yet, but I’m currently holding a 2.01% gain.
OK, all… if you want a site I think we can guarantee isn’t going to screw up:
This is the home of Ameritrade’s “play” side. You only start with 50K, but still, I think they play by normal rules, and I think they also don’t fall down as easily–so no internal server errors.
FTR, I haven’t been playing much, because I’ve been playing over on Ameritrade’s real side.
MSFT went up 15 points in the last couple days. I’m two hundred dollars richer.
I could get accustomed to this
LL
It’s OK, CNoteChris, this is the stock market! Playing by the rules is for wimps! Greed is good!
Didn’t Captain Kirk, in one of the Star Trek movies, relate how he beat the training computer back at the Academy by reprogramming it? It still counted as ingenuity. I just wish we could apply your loophole, whatever it is, to real-life stocks.
Personally, I think that if we were to ever try to find yet another site (I haven’t had problems with this one yet), we need one that allows after-hour trades. It frustrating as all hell to see stocks peak before the market even opens. That’s how I got burned on EBay today.
Or maybe I just need to join ETrade and do after hour trading for real.
So… anyone got $10,000 I can borrow?
Is there a simulator out there that supports real-time trading?
This waiting around is frustrating.
Chris, what do you mean by “real-time” trading"?
Most of the stock info from the net is delayed. This “20 Minute Rule” is the only way to set up a simulation fairly, isn’t it?
I’m in; away we go…
Not to brag or anything, but:
I’M WINNING!!! I’M WINNING!!! I’M WINNING!!!

I meant real-time in the sense that I like to see things happening right away. I don’t like sitting around waiting for the buy order to go through.
Not a big deal, just a preference.
BTW- I’d vote for a new thread too. This one’s getting pretty unmanageable. A new thread might also get more people in on the game.
Actually I’m winning, although you had a bigger percenage up day then I did yesterday. I’m worth $123,000 to your measly $107,000. So there!
