Yeah… I know that. Sheesh, let a guy have a little fun, will ya’?[/sub]
Yes, I can feel the waves of jealousy from you all. Unfortunately, not everyone has what it takes to be the Doper to “lose” $25,000 in one day.
If I keep up my pace, I will successfully piss away $100,000 in just over a week.
sdimbert, I am definitely learning something with this game. I have already learned that the experts know jack about the stock market. “Buy Nortel”, they said. So I did.
I have also learned that a company can post a huge increase in profits and still see its stock tumble $17 in a few hours.
What I haven’t learned is how to pick a winning stock. Frankly, at this point, I’m in awe of those of you who are actually posting profits.
I lost $38,000 yesterday.
Easy come easy go.
I’ve become an object lesson in the uses of margin
Boy, that twenty minute delay sure adds suspense to this game. I think I like it, but that may be more due to my unwise reliance on luck.
This morning, I found that one of my stocks had gained a total of $3500 bucks for me. That put me over $100k for the first time since the new game started, and it didn’t seem likely to rise much more. So I sold it.
That gain dropped to only $625 before the sell went through. So, no 100 kilobucks. Ah, well.
This game is screwed.
Not only did this game miss a big-time winning stock I bought earlier, it took my order but never posted it, but it also wipped out close to $4x,xxx.xx dollars from my portfolio. It also wipped out the gains I had made in it. The stock was Terra Networks which was bought up and changed the other day.
Stupid game decided it never existed and took my money as punishent.
Screw this game too! And I was doing well.
Chris,
That’s terrible.
Are you sure what occured was an error in the game? Now that some time has passed, do things look any different? I was getting ready to post new rankings and I saw you down at the bottom.

sdimbert- Instead of posting the transactions here, I’ve emailed them to you. All transaction for the day are listed. You’ll notice that it not only didn’t credit me for the trra sale, it completely missed my mew buy.
Could someone look at the ranking and see if my username is still there? I just tried to sign in and was told my user name didn’t exist.
Dammit! I just had two straight days of gains!

Hasn’t been updated since yesterday, but the whole site’s acting flaky right now.
Chris, FWIW the same thing, or a similar thing, happened to me. I ordered 3200 shares of SEI and it went out and bought me 100 shares and left the rest of the money in my 4% account. As this is a game site, I guess they don’t feel quite the pressure a true trading site would to have the bugs knocked out.
Anyway, I’m climbing.
Good luck, pal!
Well now, the link oldscratch posted on page three doesn’t work for me anymore, but you can get to the rankings with this link. Make sure you’re accepting cookies.
Long time, no post on this thread. Just wanted to mention that the market tough right now. You’d think that Cecil’s people are as smart as they come, but we’re almost all getting hammered. I think only two people in the game right now have made any money at all.
Among the rest of us, it’s just a contest of who can lose the least. Maybe the Exchange will rally after a president is chosen.
The market’s been a bit rough the last couple of weeks. Checking current results through yesterday, with a month left to go, we have only one person who hasn’t lost money.
beatle-
That’s not technically true. I lost nearly forty thousand because of a glitch in the program. Not that I’m upset about it or anything…
Oh yeah! Well I got a negative $12,000! That’s not easy to do you know, especially since I had almost $140,000 a few weeks ago.
Maybe I should apply for a job with Long Term Capital.
Man Scylla, I saw that earlier this week and couldn’t believe it. That bites.
But I also noticed how low they had fallen, so I picked up a few shares thinking they’d rebound. Nope. Bastards kept on dropping.
Now I’m out $80.00!!! Bastards!!
I always wanted to play a bear market from the other side, just to see if it was possible to make money and keep it by shorting when the primary direction is down. So far, so good. (Gold turns out to be OK in this context too, at least so far.)
Who knows how long this’ll last (has the market been wonky or what?), but at least I’m up for today:
CnoteChris staged a pretty amazing rally for a bit, especially amazing in light of the torpedo he took; but that has waned.
At the least, it looks like Scylla has got himself off the vig.
I have been neglectful. That’s what happens when you lose 75% of your initial investment… you begin to get discouraged.
But now, the end is in sight. With only 11 days left to trade, it’s a tight heat between pantom, beatle and oldscratch.
Chris, a longtime contender, has slipped of late but is expected (by pundits) to stage a late-game comeback.
sdimbert is expected to manage to all of his money before the deadline. (Anyone ever see Brewster’s Millions?)
Good luck to all!
