Stolen content. Again.

If there are any.

Gack.
She/he has a poster named “Tastes like Chocolate”. After reading the posts by this person, I think I’d puke if I ever met her.

This was the board I had found my user name on months ago when I posted this thread:

At that time, I just assumed it was a fluke.

It’s more likely the sudden upsurge of traffic led her to check her server logs which would have pointed straight back to this thread. Besides, only a visit from Cecil Adams himself could scare anyone THAT much! You don’t suppose…?
Nah.

There are a couple like that where the usename was modified just slightly. Like stinkpalm became Stink Balm. And… oh, there was another really obvious one. Can’t remember and I’m staying away from that place now. Might have been Fool Faith instead of Faith Fool, but without going back to check, I can’t be sure.

What would be their incitement to copy the content of the SDMB? What would they have to gain, really?

Padding their fora to to make themselves look more active and interesting to prospective new members, I’d wager.

Or to advertisers. I didn’t notice if there was advertising (and I don’t get pop-ups, thankFirefox) , but many advertisers pay more for sites with higher click-through rates. Or something. It’s been a while since I was looking into it, and I’m not a computer person.

Near as I can tell, there’s no advertising of any kind there, not counting the forum for members to advertise auctions and and business websites. Seems like an awful lot of effort just to draw in new members, though. It could be a pretty decent small message board community on its own if she’d put all that effort into the organization, layout and design of the place.

So TubaDiva, just out of curiosity, could you give us a brief on what happens behind the scenes in cases like this one? Bizarro Dope is now just a shadow of its former, robust and witty self, and I wonder if you guys and your lawyers did that, or did they just read this thread and fire up the shredders.

So, what’s the dope?

The last board that tried it (Metatus) is no longer operational. Draw your own conclusion.

Oo! So the Chicago Reader has Thugs? Cool!

Make 'em “disappear”…

I wanna know too.

I’ve got an image of the Reader lawyer being the one from the Simpsons (the good one, not the charlatan). It’d certainly fit in with the reaction we’ve seen…

Yesterday, the total message count on the Bizarro Dope was 137,204; much higher than the message count of the displayed forums. Today, it’s 137,194. This tells me that few, of any of the stolen messages from the real Straight Dope have been deleted; they’re just been stashed away in now-private forums.

Here’s one visible thread that wasn’t stolen from the SDMB. Thank the Lords of Kobol.

they’re just been = they’ve just been.

I previewed three times, too. That’s why none of my messages were copied.

The Chicago Reader v. Cockadoodlewhatever in a heated legal battle.

Well, not exactly… But Cecil knows a few people, and Lynn has this cousin, and…

Didn’t even know you had changed your sig, actually. Oh, how observant I am.

And that was one of the things I found weird. This person seems to know too much about the SD to just be randomly picking out names/signatures/etc.

Yeah. There’s a person named ‘Gumby’ over there, but considering his/her musical favorites he/she is as far removed from me as King Tut is.

Also: I can’t find anything about Amsterdam or the Netherlands on that board. *:: feeling very neglected:: *
