Roseanne’s toast, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see her get some sort of talk show on some alt-right platform at some point. People like Roseanne are never contrite about their bigotry, they’re just occasionally ‘sorry’ that it has consequences. But I guarantee she’s going to dig in even deeper now.
Roseanne was a pig, is a pig, and will always be a pig. The only thing that surprises me about this is that I believed she was a clever pig. Apparently not!
And of course, right wingers are recirculating long-debunked rumors about Valerie Jarrett. Yeah, she totally used her married name six years before she got married to talk about promoting a religion that she does not practice. Once again, right wingers have no conscience about spreading bullshit as long as it vilifies their opponents.
Maybe, but they had 19 million reasons to suck it up and keep going. They wouldn’t have been looking for an excuse to cancel one of the top-rated shows on TV. This decision was couched in moral terms, but the monetary ones certainly drove it.
The president of the ABC entertainment group is African American. I’m guessing it wasn’t her idea for a show, but she went along with it because it was an overture to include a demographic they’ve been accused of ignoring: aging, middle class white Americans. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Channing Dungey made it clear on day one that Roseanne Barr’s leash was a short one, and that she wasn’t going to tolerate any shenanigans.
So my theory is, Roseanne Barr probably behaved well in the beginning, when the ratings weren’t a thing. But then realized that she had an audience and decided that she wanted to test Dungey’s will to pull the plug on a successful show, assuming she wouldn’t dare, and that this assumption turned out to be a wrong one.
If she has an ownership interest in the existence of her character’s family members, then ABC maintaining that existence could be something they need to pay her for.
Mind you, I don’t know for certain if Roseanne “owns” the character Dan Conner. Just putting it out there as a plausible reason ABC might think it less complicated to abandon the show entirely
It’s easy enough to make a knockoff show, though. If the attractiveness of the show was that it showed a working-class family with realistic lives, sometimes discussing real political issues, well, just make another one. Or base it on “All in the Family” instead, if you’re worried about it looking too much like “Roseanne”.
Right off the bat, nobody in the NFL is getting fired without a disciplinary review. The players still have, after all, their collective bargaining agreement.
I’m also seeing news reports (not just right wing sources) that say she was “raised in Iran”, but her wikipedia page says they moved away when she was 5. To me, that makes “raised in Iran” a rather odd claim.
Like I said, I was not referring to a right wing source, so it is odd. Here’s the link, and I got the exact quote wrong, but I think it amounts to the same thing:
“Grew up” instead of “was raised”. Equally as odd to say if she did in fact move away when she was 5.
