Again, that’s how it’s always been for me. Don’t know why it’s changed for so many, but what you’re describing is how it’s looked since the transfer. (Except I get a yellow number dot on my avatar, not a red number dot on the three lines.)
Are you using the Vincent theme? I haven’t seen anything change on mine.
I think I missed a memo, did Discourse itself change or just the interface. The change isn’t great as I lost at least a little functionality.
- I could select and bunch of messages before and archive them, that is suddenly not working.
Checking for any other functionality losses. We’ll probably need a thread Site Feedback.
Sam’s Simple Theme.
So then why would you post this:
And lop of the part of my post where I said that nothing changed with the theme I’m using, Vincent?

Also, nothing changed with this theme. Everything looks exactly the same as it always has.

It’s not new, whatever else it may be.
It is new, for the Sam’s Simple Theme. The banner at the top and all buttons, bubbles and reply boxes are now dark blue.
I just used whatever version it gave to me, which apparently is “Straight Dope Light” (great taste, less filling?) and nothing has changed since the change to Discourse. I like it; it’s simple and easy to read and looks decent enough.
I’m using Discourse classic and can confirm that everything that used to be light blue has now changed to a darker shade of blue. I also noticed that to the right of the forum drop-down menu, there is also a tag drop-down menu where you can filter topics in the current forum by tags. Not sure if that was there before the change today, but now it is so prominent that I can’t not notice it.
It’s not the end of the world, just a bit annoying.
As I just posted in the Site Feedback thread:
I use the SD Light theme, which looks the same – but I notice that whereas before we only had a dropdown box for Categories at the top, and we now have one for Tags as well.
On the Discourse Meta board It looks like Discourse has just been updated from version 2.7 to version 2.8, and that’s probably the cause.

What theme are you using? The change we are talking about is in Classic and it definitely changed. As I said above, it actually changed while I was scrolling down a page. It’s very different. Also, the red dot thing was a joke on my part, only Mods see that.

I use Vincent and I love it. My eyes are sensitive to too-white backgrounds. Vincent is easy on my eyes.
Interesting. I think I would get eye strain from separating the text from the background. They seem too similar to me.

Thanks for this, looks like that’s probably it.
Besides the SDMB colors turning purple on me for no apparent reason, a couple of days ago my phone’s sleep screen, which usually just has a plain black background, suddenly started showing this dark purple swirly background. I began to wonder if my phone had been hacked by the Grapist!
And now, again live in mid scroll, it changed back. Yes! A small victory is achieved!

Roger that.
Now my worry is ‘how long before we get yanked around again?’ I have post-concussion vision syndrome from a series of traumatic brain injuries. Once my battered brain learns how to process visual information in a certain format/style/design is is very exhausting and frustrating to have to relearn it. At least warn us that changes are neigh. This isn’t about mere aesthetic choices for me.
And how about some PTB acknowledging that something did indeed happen instead of The Great Silence?
Cool, that looks much better to me.
The banner and button colors were restored for me as well. The tags drop-down menu remains though.

From What_Exit’s posts it seems they knew nothing about it either. Unless they told everyone but What_Exit. I hear mods sometimes have a great schism and don’t play well with each other. Maybe this was a case of all other mods v What_Exit.

Sorry to hear that. I’m hope the switch back makes things easier for you. Makes my bitching about a different shade of blue seem small stuff.
Seems coding_horror was informed of the change in the thread linked by Green_Wyvern above. Maybe he stepped in and changed it back?

Thank you, it has made it easier~actually breathed a hearty sigh of relief when I saw it. Kind and thoughtful of you to empathize-having allies actually makes it more bearable.
I was assuming it was the PTB at Discourse who were wielding discretionary powers and then imposing The Great Silence when caught out. I think some of our moderators also felt like they were cut adrift without an oar. It’s a labor of love they do and I wouldn’t do it for all the corn in Iowa (I can say that, born and raised there).
Please feel invited to come sit next to me on the Group W bench anytime you want.
I know others disagree with this, but I really liked the changes of March 22-23 and would love if you went back to them. I use Sam’s Simple Theme.
Straight Dope Light is the closest, but it still has the lighter colors everywhere except the banner. I don’t think any choices have the dark blue buttons etc.
