That’s hilarious! You GOTTA pull that trigger!
Sorry that the Mavs had to pull through for you. But the Magic choked pretty big, so you’ve got that going for you.
Oops, sorry. Forgot there was one more to go.
So who’s going to pick the winner? Munch, you gonna post us on the AntSports board again?
How about I just declare myself the winner?
No? Then let’s do this:
Ouch.
To sum up, the folks over at Antsports didn’t look kindly on our draft. Seems some of them were physically and emotionally affected seeing Green go first, to be followed by Gannon.
Well, Munch, that draft was largely for fun, had a lot of people who don’t live and breathe football, and featured a large number of computer picks that threw off everything. In other words, it wasn’t “serious.” And having read the Antsports thread, I’m glad I play for fun and not money, as some of those commentators come off as real a$$holes.
P.S.
Sorry again for abandoning my team to computer control, but I was out of town and didn’t want to slow down the draft. By the time I got back we were well into the later rounds, and at that point it didn’t even matter.
neuro, don’t sweat it. And I agree, those guys don’t really understand the concept of doing it for fun. However, their analyses are usually pretty spot on, since their genetic makeup lacks a certain enzyme that requires constant consumption of all things football at least 16 hours a day. Some of us just can’t be that devoted.
No, no, no, they’re all brilliant. That’s why they have jobs in the NFL.
Oh yeah!!
For the record, I had nothing to do with the selections made in my name. That is the reason, for the first time ever, I will not be picking myself as winner. I know, I know, it’s shocking to all, but be assured, once I do the picks myself, I will once again, blindly choose myself to win.
Some thoughts:
Chico’s (Munch) - A solid team with a lot of value picks. Getting Joseph to backup Fragile Freddy was key, and Shockey could be a huge player. I’d be a bit concerned with the WR, after Toomer, it gets a bit iffy. If Culpepper can keep the turnovers down and Portis plays like last year, you’d be a contender. On a scale of 1- 10, I’d give you a 7.
Stitch - Only 3 RB’s and 2 of them are splitting time? Zereoue may end up doing very well, but he’s iffy as a number 2. That being said, you have to really like a team with Garcia, R. Williams, E. Moulds, and David Boston. They may carry you, but the lack of depth will more likely cost you. I’d give you an 8, but trending downward.
Nurse Carmen - You made my favorite pick of the draft, getting Charlie Rogers in the 13th round. Unfortunately, I think that S.Alexander is too inconsistent, Bettis to old, Emmitt Smith is too, and T. Richardson is too not Larry Johnson. You have great players and depth at QB, but the lack of a solid rb crew will cost you. 6
Mouthbreather - Another solid team that only needs one player to emerge to compete for the title. Although the Bills taking McGahee makes me wonder, I really like Henry. If Bennett, Shipp, or Mack emerge this year, you’ll have a great team.Your QB crew is the iffiest, but with Harrison and the rest, you may be able to overcome that. 8.
Team 3 - Phew. It’s good to know that the computer didn’t just single me out to make a lousy team. Holmes in the 5th spot may be the pick of the draft, but only if he is healthy, not holding out, and still the focus of the offense. Too many if’s for me. Not horrible, but not great team. 5
California Dolphins - Using the first pick of the draft on A.Green is gutsy if nothing else. I think you reached in each of your first 7 picks, each person went way to early. And only 3 runningbacks, with Chris Muadfsdsuuuauellauuel, soon to be traded or cut? Taking 2 TE’s before your second WR? 4 defenses? I’m guessing you got computerized, because this team isn’t going to win much of anything. 4
Verbenna Renegades - I’m guessing you’re a Oakland fan, because I see no other reason to take Gannon with the number 2 pick, and follow it up with Garner in the second round. Garner, Hearst, Dayne, and Levens all share time and goal-lines carries, and are soon to be out the door. Taking a kicker in the 7th round, a good 2 rounds before everyone else, was reaching also. You’ll do well if you finish in the middle of the pack. 5.
Shibb - What has 4 old legs, can’t run, and had only one good year? Your running backs!! While I like the idea of similarly named players on a team, both Antowain and Lamar are, for the most part, done in the NFL. I am amazed the Patriots haven’t gotten a free agent or drafted a RB to replace Antowain, maybe they see something I don’t. But the guy only had 1 100+ game last year, and couldn’t muster 1,000 yards. I love Owens, and Coles as two starting WR, and your youth at QB could be on the verge of breaking out, but your RB crew will cost you dearly. 6.5.
Norfolk & Waypal Overnight Delivery - For some reason, I really like this team. Their RB corps is the best of the group (WL2 will give a run for the money though), with a great mix of solid players, potential studs, and solid backups. This team may be relying too much on A. Brooks, and they seriously need a second solid WR (S. Moss was a reach), but even their K, TE, and D are all great picks. Give this team a second stud receiver and they’ll be tough to beat. 8.5
PUP - McNabb, CuMar, and Holt, make it hard to argue against this team. However, I’m not sold on Rod Smith, T. Hambrick, and C. Chambers just yet. But I’ve been wrong before. A pretty solid team, but one major injury and it could come crashing down. 7.
WL2 - Deuce and Davis will be monsters, and Green has the potential to match them. Getting Horn in the fourth round was a great grab (how did he fall so far?), and Bledsoe in the 5th was fine. Porter should see more catches this year, and Chad Johnson may fall off a bit while Palmer learns. However, I really like this team and I think they’ll compete with the best. 8.5
Camel Toes - Indy or bust!! This team will be made or broken by E.James. If he’s still not back to his old form, this team will suffer. Dillon has a hard time getting the Tds, and after Burris, they’re isn’t much in the WR corp. Not a great team, but just a middlin’ 6.
mrchan - High risk team. Moss and Jimmy Smith on the same team may be great, but I sense the downward trend for poor Jimmy. I like Barlow, but E.George seems to be spiraling down also. Waiting 6 rounds for a QB is also questionable this year, and I don’t see the Bucs starting to air it out for B.Johnson. 6.
Hamlet - Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner on the same fantasy team?? I’d be kicking everyone’s ass…if this were 2 years ago. After those two, I got nothin’ Anthony Thomas in the third round… and T. Jones in the 4th? Please, somebody shoot me. BANG 4.
If I had to pick the top 3 in order of finish, I’d go with:
- Mouthbreather
- Norfolk and Waypal
- WL2
There you have some thoughts. I always like to pick apart other people’s drafts, because facing the reality of mine is just too painful. I hope you enjoy.
Plus, I’m nicer than the maniacs at Antsports.
Great job, Hamlet! I think my score of “7” was pretty accurate. My one (and only!) fault is I wait too long to pick up WRs. They’ve burned me in the past, and I’m reluctant to splurge. Plus, I’ve had a good history of trading RBs for them. As I mentioned during the draft, you should never wait to draft a backup QB when you have Culpepper, especially in a league so large. I was planning on picking up Kitna or Brees, as I see them as the perfect backup QBs - low value, huge upside, lots of tools (seriously! I really like Kitna!). However, Minnesota shares the bye week with San Diego and Cincinnati, so that strategy is out the window.
However, my backup Jeff Blake plays Baltimore that week, and I predict a stunning upset over his former team this year. Could be their only win of the season.
yeah i’m not really happy with draft. when’s the next one?
How about we set one or two up tomorrow? I think we should do a 10 team draft, and if there are more who want to participate, we’ll do a second. 14 teams in 16 rounds was exhausting, and the 8 team draft was too short.
I’m in for the 10-team one.
Ya me too, I think. Starting tomorrow you say?
Yup. Just started a new thread.
I’m in, where’s the new thread?
For reference, even though I know you already found it mrchan, the new thread is:
Here.
