Straight Dope now available on podcast

Cecil’s latest can now be heard on a podcast. In the iTunes Store, search for “Straight Dope,” then click on the “subscribe” button next to the Straight Dope logo. The column will be sent to you automatically each week, masterfully voice by Stan Jastrzebski.

That’s awesome, but “No items were found that matched your query.”

What I meant was, you have to launch the iTunes app, then go to the iTunes Store, same as when getting a tune.

Ohhhh okay, my bad. I’m not familiar with the workings of iTunes and it’s related stuff.

Yay for the Ska Brewing Co., the sponsors!

Does Stan pronounce his last name in the podcast? That could be a SD column all by itself - How do you pronounce a Polish name?

He’s Irish, just comes from a long line of terrible spellers. He pronounces it “Murphy.”

I’m trying to get a version you can listen to without having an iPod, but one thing at a time.

You don’t need an iPod to listen to an iTunes podcast. You can play it on any computer that has the iTunes application and speakers or headphones.
You can also convert the files from AAC to MP3 format if the podcast is in AAC format. Many devices can play MP3 files.

LOUNE sums my feelings about iTunes in this post. Had it before, never again. Point being, I may not need an iPod to listen to the podcast, but I need iTunes to acquire it in the first place. So how do I get the podcast without iTunes?

Here’s the podcast feed - link

Putting that into any RSS feed reader or a podcatcher such as Juice should work.

ETA: Just checked and it’s working in both Google Reader and Juice for me.

Cool! I will check that out. Thanks Ed! And thanks Kal for digging out the URL, so I don’t have to use iTunes.

What - no Mike Lucas? He was good, and the “going into the torch of Lady Liberty” piece was what twigged me to the dope

Wow, podcast, that’s an awfully modern term for you, Ed! Next thing you know you will discover RSS!

Way to show your gratitude.

I was going to suggest someone do that. Maybe we could keep this thread open for someone to do it each time a new podcast is released. Unless, of course, Ed or whoever adds a section to the main page about it.

You mean this?

Also, cratch my first posts. I thought it was a link to the actual soundfile, not the podcast feed itself. Heck, that’ll even double as an RSS feed, since it has the full text in it (though it needs paragraph breaks). So my previous posts are unnecessary. I need to take more time before sending, especially this early in the morning. Three posts in a row is too many!

Great work Ed. I have added it to my playlist, and it gets synced on my BlackBerry.

I used the ‘Listen’ app on my Android phone to listen to this last night, good stuff! That ska tune kinda stuck in my head though…
