OTOH I think there are a set of small but useful enhancements that the board does miss relative to others. Maybe this is a reflection of the old (3.8.7) version of the system used. But there seems to be little interest in addressing some of the more annoying curiosities of behaviour either.
Obvious one - the one minute wait after posting a moderator notification to post on the thread itself. There are probably many other that could be sorted out.
A nice to have many other boards have - individual tracking of read position in threads so no matter what the little button on the left takes you to the start of your unread messages in a thread, not just to some random position based upon a vague notion of recent.
I do agree that the simplicity and sparse look of the SDMB is a good thing. Not embracing the latest emoji is a good thing. But I can’t imagine that it isn’t possible to configure a similarly stripped down look for one of the later versions of vBulletin.
Let’s give young** Sputnikk** a serious answer here.
The Powers That Be don’t want to invest any more time and money into this board than they absolutely have to.
Previous attempts to upgrade the system have sometimes led to Bad Things Happening.
Perhaps because of the lack of bells and whistles, people who stay here tend to be the kind who don’t LIKE inserting videos, photos, sounds, etc. and don’t want 1,000 emoticons. Seriously, we have a whopping 13 emoticons to choose from here, and how many of us even use those?
(Font and color are things we can actually do here. And size changes. Although I caution you that doing it more than occasionally will not be well received. See “Grapist”)
There’s already a discussion on here about rabbits, rabbits are fascinating, cute, great pets, and yummy as well, bet you didn’t know this…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn7CWKWfgys
Ok, so I can understand why no photos, no video, no bells and whistles, and simplicity. but my problem with the site is more about —it seems like it takes too many steps to find the last post I posted in, and which posts I’m active in, other forums I go to have a button that says 'my posts" “my activities”.
Also “thank you” buttons or “like” buttons so I can show my appreciation to people for spending the time to answer my stupid questions, or writing witty things that truly make me laugh. Also, if pancake bunny where added to the emoticons it would be the perfect ending for a post like this. Photobucket | Make your memories fun!

That all depends on what a hopping, pancake wearing bunny means to a particular person. Some of us have had life experiences that we don’t need to be reminded of.
i would suggest a trigger warning before each emoticon.
It took me a great deal of thought to come up with a substitute, but after a great deal of deliberation I realized I could just type “thank you” when I wanted to add a “thank you” to one of my threads. Difficult concept, I realize…
