Bunnies aren’t just cute like everyone supposes. They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses, and what’s with all the carrots!? What do they need such good eyesight for anyway!? Bunnies, bunnies, it must be bunnies!! Or maybe midgets…
God I fucking hate that rabbit with the pancake.
Pancake bunny doesn’t care whether you like him or not he just keeps hopping.
Yeah, but the server would have to upgrade to Windows 98 to run it.
Slippery slope, slippery slope. Once we allow the pancake bunny then we’ll have to allow that fucking dancing panda, and then where will it all end?
I agree we don’t want inline video and images and a million emoticons. But the core functionality of the board could definitely be improved. Search is useless and there is no easy way to see all of the threads you’ve posted in recently which has been replied to.
The board is using VBulletin 3 which is very old now. The latest version is VBulletin 5 Connect, but it seems version 4 is more popular and yes one of the things it provides is better search. I believe you can choose to disable the inline images and video features in the board admin.
So why hasn’t the dope updated to VBulletin 4?
Let us not annoy the Powers That Be, lest they shut down the board. :dubious:
Before seeing it, I had pictured the bunny as something cool, perhaps an abstract suggestion of a bunny. But no, that’s just a literal bunny with a pancake. I withdraw my support.
This was brought up after that one time we were hacked. They upgraded to the latest version of vBulletin 3 for security reasons, but could not justify jumping to vB 4 or 5.
Quite a lot of people report headaches with doing so–headaches our extremely tiny tech team (essentially one person, if I understand correctly) doesn’t want to deal with. The database would have to be upgraded, and there can be several hiccups along the way. Especially with a database as big as ours.
I think being able to post embedded images would be a great improvement, but it’s not going to happen and I’m cool with it.
Besides, the intelligent people on this board couldn’t handle something as goddamn simple as the ‘nested quote’ function, so it’s probably best not to confuse them with embedded images, video, or more than the standard array of smilies. The place would implode in a matter of days.
There are loads of good tech people on this board who would volunteer to help with the update. Staying on vb3 forever isn’t viable long term. It’s no longer getting security patches. Eventually you’ll get hacked again.
Did you know that’s still around and active?
Just did a little digging. There is still releases for vb3. Latest is 3.8.9 which supports php 5.5 The dope is on 3.8.7 which is using an older version of php with known security holes.
The software can cope with embedded images - you can post them in the Marketplace, for example - but it’s switched off for most forums.
Personally, I’d like to see them switched on in MPSIMS, the Game Room and Cafe Society. But I realise I’m in a minority, and it’s not like you can’t link to images off board if you need to.
Pancake bunny is not just a bunny with a pancake on his head- he is the zeitgeist of our times… There are Japanese-deep-zen-philosophical-meanings behind pancake bunny. There is no smiley face emoticon that can communicate pancake bunnies meaning- Dancing Panda doesn’t even come close.
I’m wondering do people know about the original pancake bunny Oolong?
That’s a waffle.
Fail.
And I think the bunny is Belgian.
I recently began lurking at another special-purpose board. It might be vBulletin but with avatars, embedded images, and lots and lots of animated gif emoticons.
This is a board for professionals to socialize, not to network. Like a virtual watering hole down the street from the workplace. So the topics & commentary are informal, funny, entertaining, etc. Plus lots of industry insider jokes.
The damn dancing icons make even the most grown-up of posts look like something an 8 yo girl posted.
I was surprised myself at how tiresome and distracting the busier graphics were. I had wondered whether the objections around here were just fuddy-duddyism run wild. Nope.
I’d still like to see avatars…SHUSH!!
Burn him!!! :mad::mad::mad::mad:
