StraightDope Ad bug

Hey all,

Just noticed on the front page (straightdope.com), that every once in awhile, the banner ad at the top displays the incorrect advertisement. The space is limited to a lengthwise banner ad, but every once in awhile, it will display a squareish one, which overlaps the main logo.

I noticed it had a grey-to-white gradient, which I assumed was one of your own ads, so I thought I’d give you a heads up.

Looks like an ad for Return of the Dittos, I just got it to.

Yeah, and we’re leaving it alone – the guy is getting clicks like crazy, he’s thrilled.

I am responding to this thread as a test; it appears that I can’t post anyway so it shouldn’t matter. If I succeed, I apologize for hijacking this thread. I can’t search (see the new thread I was trying to create below) and I can’t create new threads. When I tried, it just gives me a blank page. What gives?
Thread title:
Why does search no longer work for me?
In the advanced search screen it does not matter what I put in Keyword or user name, I always get the same response. Explicitly:

Please specify some words or valid user names to search on. There were no matches for those that you specified.

For users, it will actually auto-complete the name so I am sure I am doing correctly. Hell, I can even un-check the exact name box. It doesn’t matter, I get the same thing every time…

Is it because I am using Chrome?

Well, it looks like (from the previous post) that I can reply to threads, just can’t create them. Any help?

I do not know why you would be having this problem.

I use Chrome and I don’t have this problem, so I don’t think it’s Chrome.

I don’t hear of anyone else having this problem.

So let’s look at some other things going on with you and your situation. If you want to take this off the board you can send me an email at TubaDiva AT aol dot com or you can PM me, whatever you feel comfortable with is fine. In any event I need to know what kind of computer you have and what kind of operating system.

Do you have this problem in all browsers? What other browsers have you tried?

Let’s see if we can’t find out what’s going on with you and eliminate the problem.

Hey, we’re tickled somebody is happy around here. I’m happy for him, aren’t you?

I’m using Firefox and I can’t post a new thread either. It gives me the “message too short” message. Maybe I’ll reboot and see what happens.

Sorry, it works fine in Internet Explorer. I suspect that it’s just my FoxReplace add-on.

Thanks for the additional info, Darryl. We’ve had vB conflict with FoxFire add-ins before.
