Strange Android problem: Broswer windows load SLIGHTLY zoomed in

For about a month now, almost every time I load a new page, it opens just slightly zoomed in to where I have to zoom out to get the full window on my screen. For the SDMB, for example, it loads so that my avatar in the upper-right corner is offscreen. If I click onto another page on that same domain it loads correctly, but if I navigate to a different domain then that page will be zoomed in, and if I then load the Dope again my avatar is offscreen once more.

Neither the Android or Chrome zoom settings do anything to change this - they just make the text on the screen larger or smaller, but the window is still zoomed in. I can’t think of any setting I’ve changed on my phone that would be causing this or what happened to make it start happening when I’ve never had this problem before having used Androids since 2009.

Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Not sure if related: I’ve noticed this happening on the SDMB over the last few days (Firefox on Android), but in my case it wasn’t because of a zoom setting, but rather text size + some really long category names (mostly Misc. Pointless Stuff I Must Share) that was causing the webpage to extend outward to the right too much, requiring horizontal scrolling. That was most often on the “Latest” or “Unread” views, but sometimes also when the suggested topics below a post got too long. I do have my SDMB text size setting on “Largest”, though. Doesn’t seem to happen no Normal or Smaller.

Does it happen on other sites for you? Any examples, or screenshots?

Here are some I took just now on the Dope, Reddit, and CNN, in all of which you can see that the right edge of the screen is just out of frame and needs to be zoomed out;

It’s almost as if the page is loading behind the nav bar, which I don’t recall it ever doing before and which I can’t figure out how to do anything about it.

Is that a Samsung phone? (Just trying to figure out what the nav bar is — it’s not a stock Google one)

Galaxy S23, yes.

That kinda looks like a bug with Samsung’s nav bar blocking the right side of your screen. Did you recently update the phone to a newer version of One UI, perhaps, or change the nav bar settings (button instead of swipe, or anything else)? Might be worth a phone restart?

Others seem to be having issues too: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-s25-series/s25-screen-resolution-affected-by-navigation-bar/td-p/11737861

There is apparently an app called “Good Lock” which can be used with another module(?) called “NavStar”, both co-developed with Samsung apparently, that might let you tweak the settings a bit?

I have a Samsung mobile device. They recently pushed an OS update which silently installed Samsung’s own proprietary web browser and force-switched the default choice away from my preferred Brave browser without telling me. I had to manually switch back (and then I overrode the device and uninstalled the Samsung browser).

I don’t know if this is what might be affecting you, but it screwed up my device for a little while until I could restore my preferences.

Not unless it was something that autoinstalled without my knowledge. Which I wouldn’t put past Samsung, since “Surprise! We changed the layout you’ve been using for years to a new one which is janky and incomprehensible, for no apparent benefit! Good luck!” is a tale as old as the internet itself.

I’ll look into those.

I use Chrome because I’m stubborn and don’t feel like replacing what works just fine for me (I stuck with Internet Explorer for WAY longer than most people) and I haven’t had it try to change that on me.

I’ve been having the same problem with my iPhone. I’m watching this thread to learn.
