I once was very foolish and clicked on a Reddit link flagged NSFL to see what the acronym meant. It was photos of and around a 737 engine that had ingested a mechanic.
I’d say images of the damage krokodil does to a person is the top of my list. Bonus points for the videos.
Images showing the effects of congenital syphilis. How the hell these people were still alive is a miracle. (Krokodil’s a close second)
Call me old-fashioned, but I still haven’t seen anything to rival Tub Girl and Goatse.
If any of you are fortunate enough not to know what those are…be kind to yourself and don’t search.
Tub Girl is someone squirting feces into her own face; Goatse is a guy bending over and dilating his anus.
4Chan’s “rekt” videos are often hair-raisingly hideous. (Video imagery of people getting hurt or killed in accidents, usually in really, really nasty ways.)
I’ve seen goatse and tubgirl so many times (I was on a board that was invaded by the Something Awful goons) I’m pretty much immune to it. In fact, goatse still makes me laugh.
(Now Lemonparty, that’s a different story)
Ingrown facial hair pulled out with tweezers, or bot fly larvae extraction from someone’s back (also with tweezers) are probably tame compared to some other stuff mentioned here, I am sure.
Web Soup had a few good ones on “Things You Can’t Un-See”. Maggot-foot was pretty gnarly. They also showed a bot-fly larva extraction from a girl’s head while she talked through the procedure, which was really gross.
You get a really nasty image if you google “don’t ride a motorcycle in flipflops” as well, which I think I’ve shared here before.
It’s the Internet, man. There’s so much grossness that it’s hard to even classify after a while. Just go to the “offended” page on Encyclopedia Dramatica and see how far you get.
I was once trying to debunk some claim or other about a decapitated head living for awhile after being severed. I went to Snopes to do this, and searching that site using the term “decapitated head” brought up a police story about the same. The story was that a suspect, running along roofs to escape the police, had tried to jump down into a driveway, but had contrived to clip a spiked-top iron fence on his descent. Spikes impaled his head from beneath, and because he was a heavy guy, his head was popped off his body, which continued down onto the driveway.
There was a picture of his head on the fence, and it’s something I’d really like to unsee.
Road accident scene pictures can be pretty horrific.
I think the one that put me off looking at that kind of thing forever was a guy who had a particularly bad face-plant after leaving a motorcycle involuntarily at unspecified but non-zero speed, without a helmet.
His face didn’t look that bad – mashed flat but not road rashed. So I think he must have hit a fixed surface face-on.
But the top of his skull had popped open like a trap door and his brain had kind of slithered out with the last of his momentum. It was lying there fairly intact on the pavement just beyond where he lay.
Yuck.
Geez, those Harlequin Romance novels are way different from what I expected.
I saw road accident pics of some guy in a small car that I think ran under the back of a larger truck. They had his upper torso laid out on the road and he’s cut in half with his spine extending down like some strange, reptilian appendage. That’ll make you pay attention on the road.
Back in the day when we first got the Internet we went to every depraved site we could find just because we could. Rotten .com and goregallery .com were the best (worst). There was a series of photos on one of those where this lady and her boyfriend killed her husband and posed for photos while chopping up the body, then posed the body parts. Severed head with a foot in his mouth was one.
Goatse is something I wish I could un-see. Even worse was the video clip of some guy trying to insert a glass jar or bottle up his ass and the glass broke. Blood pours down while he calmly tries to pick out the glass shards. Eventually he walks off camera and you just hear a loud scream.
Serious shortage of links here, people!
There’s a reason for that!
There was a case a few years ago (in California, I think) where a mentally disturbed young girl stole a car from her parents and ended up in a high-speed chase. She wound up crashing into a barrier at a toll plaza at a ridiculously high rate of speed. The accident photos were leaked online; I remember looking at one in particular –
It’s of the interior of the car, which had been split open by the impact. There’s a barely recognizable human form inside, but there’s something wrong with the head…it took me a while to realize I was looking at the girl’s fully exposed tongue and lower jaw. The top of her head had been sheared off by the impact.
I read an interview with the girl’s family; at the time, her sisters were refusing to use the internet out of fear that they would stumble upon the pictures.
Was that Nikki Catsouras, by any chance? I’m including a link to the wiki article, which does NOT include pictures.
Watched the Nick Berg video. Have regretted it ever since.
That sounds like the one.
A picture of a guy who’d cut himself in half with a band saw. Really.
Poking around on YT will lead to some…interesting images of long-dead bodies. One of the grossest was featured on one of those forensic TV shows; it was a woman who died in 1978 and was disinterred about 16 years later to check whether her death was really a suicide. Her body was covered in white mold, almost to the point of clothing and facial features being unrecognizable. After the mold was cleaned off, much of the soft tissues were in decent shape, but it was still not exactly pleasant to look at.
Lewandowsky-Lutz dysplasia isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a very rare disease found in people with an HPV infection and a very weak immune system, leading to coral reef-like growths of warts on their extremities.
Tinea favosa is rare today, but it’s still an ugly fungal infection of the skin that involves yellow, crust-like growths.
It seems that diseased or decayed skin is what I tend to find the most disturbing – tubgirl didn’t appal me that much, although I knew what it was before I saw it – but YMMV.
