And why, my dear friend, would non-white males be more turned off by “specifics” and more united by “fairy tales” than actual white males? Are women and minorities less interested in “specifics?” Why?
Together they fight crime.
I cut through the phoniness and laid bare Hillary’s strategy. Sorry if I didn’t wrap it in a simpleton’s box with a bow tied around it. HuffPo has the flowery, anesthetized version if that suits your intellect.
I do find it rather funny the OP is so butthurt about it. When the Democratic operatives begin fomenting the demographic war cries, he’ll find more mean names to call me. Hillary will stay “above it all,” and, much like her announcement video, say nothing of any substance. In fact, she will separate her individual self as much as possible from the entire election. It won’t be about Hillary because she and her campaigners don’t want it to be about her. She will let them do the dirty work for her. Despite the peculiar claims of sexism, I’ve said many times she’s no idiot; a cold, calculating politician through and through. Funny that the shriekers here defend her like she’s Jesus. What’s there to love…?
At any rate, the election is 19 months away and I’ve already deigned the rules of the game. More butthurt and mean names to come, no doubt, but it won’t stop that apple from falling (through the path of greatest resistance, mind you).
Batter away, folks. Me and my prediction aren’t going anywhere.
deigned?
No, they’re trying to take over the world.
I just want to make sure everybody knows that Stringbean is not Green Bean, and Green Bean is not Stringbean.
I admit to having a soft spot for my botanical twin, however.
It’s not just you. The fabled left-leaning bias of the SDMB is edging to the right.
Dude. Things fall because gravity attracts them. The path of “greatest resistance”, as a concept, has no particular meaning in relation to gravitational attraction. Things don’t fall sideways or upwards because there is relatively less gravitational attraction in those directions. Likewise, the velocity at which something falls is not the “speed of gravity”. In an atmosphere, falling things accelerate until they reach a terminal velocity, at which point air resistance balances the acceleration.
But of course you’re not really that uneducated, right? You’re just taking the piss, aren’t you?
Thing is that without the snarky spin, the doof aint far off. Minor changes:
The marketing strategy is thus: make the campaign about the demographic groups and not about the candidate. Illustrated perfectly by this video. A venerable smorgasbord of demographic archtypes, with the actual presidential candidate something of a side-piece. The first indication that this endeavor has anything to do with Hillary Clinton isn’t until the 1:30 mark–two-thirds of the way in. Expect little interest from the left in Hillary herself; she is polarizing. Her campaign will seek to attack Republicans and unite the majority coalition. If she is short on actual policy, that’s a plus. The easiest way to unite a diverse group is not to offer specifics. Just point to the bad guys and continue to sell a dream of future to come.
Not quite sure though how polarizing she really is other than in a unipolar fashion: those who hate her hate her with the intensity of a thousand suns; those who like her, well, like her … Few love her with a passion. She is very well qualified. But inspirational? Not so much so.
Job one of selling President Hillary Clinton is making it not about her, but about “us”, with “us” being as broadly defined as possible. “White males” are in that calculus just one demographic group, not anywhere near the most important one. Limiting the size of the loss in that group is more the goal than winning it. There will be maybe close to 40% of us voting for her (or against the GOP candidate as the case may be). Pander to the demographic all you want and it won’t go up by much more. You just don’t want to be too much less … and there are enough of us white males who think she is just fine and/or would vote against any of the GOP side in any case that dropping too much lower is unlikely even if those who look like us are not overwhelmingly featured in her ads.
A major reason many will vote for her is because they know that Congress is now not only under GOP control but mostly with the most batshit elements of the party at the wheel; many swing voters are going to vote not for a President Hillary Clinton but for a counterweight to the batshit.
Now true some small portion of white males will hear that they are not the most important demographic group and respond with “Those be fightin’ words!” but for any Democratic presidential candidate it is simple reality. Harsh and ruthless as reality may be. If a Democratic presidential candidate got 50% plus one of the white male vote they have won in a huge landslide.
Who is shrieking, other than shrieking with laughter at you and your odd worldview? Otherwise, the shrieking is in your head.
That she isn’t you or the seven dwarfs running for the GOP nomination? That’s quite good enough for me.
And an ugly looking one at that, bro.
Peculiar claim…
Phony has been thusly cutted through!
Just so long as you don’t cross-pollinate, it’s all good.
Well, considering I’m an atheist, that’s fairly apt.
For the love of god, no pistils at dawn.
Care to engage with any of your critics? Care to answer any questions on your assertions?
Such as: What are “demographic fairy tales”, and what “demographic fairy tales” are represented in the video?
I said the careerist is a wanted man
He makes his way all across the land
I see him sifting through the sand
So I’ll tell you all the story
About the careerist and the fiend in the night*…
Nope, doesn’t scan right.
Thought so, and there are enough of them that posters like Stringbean have someone to talk to, rather than just be kind of ignored.
You think you’ve done some killer, insightful posting by pointing out that a political candidate is trying to appeal to demographics that she thinks will vote for her?
The truth, laid bare! A political candidate is trying to get more votes!
You go, girl.

Can I just highlight this as one of the more clever responses I’ve seen lately? Thanks for the morning chuckle jsgoddess.
If you throw a rock at a pack of dogs, the one who howls is the one you hit. I find this particularlytrue of BrainGlutton.
Most politicians are arrogant phonies, especially limousine liberal politicians, but Hillary is especially so. Unfortunately for her, this is too deeply impressed on the public record to overcome with a ineptly-staged campaign kickoff, with its planted liberal “ordinary citizens” and Hillary’s “let’s not talk about the issues, I just want to be your pal” stuff that she simply can’t bring off for long. Her sleazy, lying, sexual predator husband did it very well - she does it rather badly.
I still think she will make the nomination, mostly on momentum, but I am gaining a growing hope that she will never have another chance to steal the furnishings from the White House on her last day of office. I could be wrong - I hope I’m not.

Shodan
