Strom turns 100!

After numerous years in the senate, our good friend Mr Strom Thurmond, Republican from South Carolina, is finally hitting the century mark! Happy Birthday!

Also, he’s retiring from his senate seat when this term ends! Yipee! No more Strom! Good news all around!

Yup. No more Strom. What in the hell are we going to joke about now?

Skerri
South Carolinian for 28 years now…

I understand he likes older women . . . I’m planning on setting him up with Leni Riefenstahl . . .

I understand exactly the opposite. Isn’t he married to a beauty queen 1/4 his age?

Huh? He’s always dated MUCH younger women.

That’s because he needs the blood of a virgin to keep his *ss going.

He drinks it.

That would be funny, if it wasn’t true

From here.

Wouldn’t you love to be able to sit down with someone that age and just…talk about everything that he’s seen in the 20th century? He was nine years old when Titanic went down, fer crine out loud.

What spooks me about Thurmond is that I’m afraid he’d start gaily recounting “Great Lynchings of My Boyhood,” or some such…

He was first elected to public office as a state senator in 1933. He ran for President, at age 46, against Truman.

Man. That cat is old.

What I want to know is, who names their child “Strom”? Is that supposed to mean something?

There was a good article about him and his birthday in this week’s Economist.

Happy birthday, you old bigot. I mean it.

Actually Eve, IIRC, I swear to God itself, on Strom’s 96th birthday, I watched a news article in which he stated “I may be ninety-six years old, but I still like the young women!” I think he was with a couple of Playboy Bunnies.

Heh, lucky for me, too, as I had to write a report about Thurmond for Government class during my senior year in high school. I needed to include a quote, and I just so happened to be watching the news that day…

I got extra credit for originality on that one.

Only the good die young.
