Stuff (books, movies, food, etc.) you like, even though you know its really not very good?

Mahna Mahna—I was with you 100% on the low rent grilled cheese (I am just the same way as you in that American cheese in the plastic wrapped slices usually makes me gag, but for some reason its the only way to go with a grilled cheese) but I have never heard of ketchup on a GC sandwich—Is this a Canadian thing like tomato juice in beer?

I love/hate/love *John Boorman’s *Excalibur. Some really brilliant stuff mixed with some that’s truly cringe inducing.

Might be a Canadian thing, or maybe it’s just my unnatural obsession with ketchup. I smother my scrambled eggs in the stuff too.

On the other hand, what’s this tomato juice in beer thing? Uuuuuuugh. We’ll take the blame for the Caesar and for rye whiskey… but that?

I’m not Canadian & I like to dip my grilled cheese in ketchup! I can’t get behind the plastic wrapped cheese slices though, I like good sharp cheddar.

My Sweet Valley Hig]h collection - every six months or so, I re-read about twenty of them. They only take about an hour to read, so this is not a major time committment. Ditto the VC Andrews series Dawn and Flowers in the Attic.

The George Lopez Show - my daughter watches this all the time, and I have to say that I usually laugh out loud a few times during the show.

I eat a lot of hot dogs…

And I love a lot of B movies - Night of the Comet, Just One of the Guys, etc.

And tons of YA books…

Don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it…

Huh, I’m surprised nobody here has mentioned…

Damn it! Too late now, keep going!

…the Wheel of Time series. Poor writing, poor characterization, poor plot control, hundreds of pages wasted on descriptions of minor/insignificant characters…but damn if it doesn’t keep a special place on my bookshelf. Like someone said in the ‘who finds Harry Potter’s success depressing’ thread, it’s straight up wish-fulfillment fiction with an engaging setting.

:dubious:

The classic traditional pairing is a grilled cheez sandwich with a bowl of tomato soup. So, it’s not a stretch to me, since both ketchup and tomato soup consist of seasoned, mushed-up tomatoes.

Or … is the sammich/soup combo not a common thing around your parts, either?

Creamy fattiness is always best cut with something sharp and acidic. Therefore, cheese + tomatoes = yum. (This is the only kind of math at which I excell.)

And, yes, I either smother or dip my GC sammich into ketchup. Tastes naked without a little sauce…

Even though it’s some of the most stupid TV ever, I love watching Ghosthunters and other shows about supernatural phenomena, like those on the Travel Channel and TLC (the Learning Channel? Please). Especially when they bring in the phony psychics who dress in goth and wander around “sensing” things and grasping at straws.

I’m a huge fan of Ritz-Bitz cheese sandwiches (you know, the kind with the powdered, reconstituted cheese in them).

And I second Mahna Mahna’s love of romance novels. Talk about a mental break. I used to write erotica - it can pay the bills nicely if you have some imagination, basic writing skills and the right market - so I could loosely pass them off as “research” (wink, wink), but with a full-time job, a consulting business, one kid and another on the way, I haven’t had time in a long time. Though I’m thinking I might take it up again in my abundant free time.

Oh, and since I’ve been pregnant, I can’t tell you how much of that cheap, port-wine bar cheese I’ve consumed. Its fantastic tangy, fake-cheesey goodness has had me in seventh heaven many a time, especially when I get home from work and my toddler is the only one to see. He’s a great partner in food crime.

Novels written for tabletop game settings. Games like Warhammer 40,000, Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: the Gathering.

Additionally, I love junk science books and tv shows - Bigfoot, ghosts, UFOs, the “bible code”. My favorite is the Loch Ness Monster.

In part because of the Comics Curmudgeon and the Something Awful Forums, I have bizarre addictions to bad newspaper comics as well. My personal favorite is The Amazing Spider-Man, because newspaper Spider-Man is just so strange. Not only does he appear to have some sort of mental problem, the storylines are rather unusual: they started using the Marvel Comics “Spidey was never married to Mary Jane” continuity but dismissed it all as a dream and now Wolverine’s involved…for Wolverine! Ridiculous stuff.

And I watch way too much children’s television for my own good. I prefer the well-written programs: SpongeBob SquarePants, Fairly OddParents, Phineas and Ferb, iCarly, WordGirl, the new Electric Company…okay, maybe that last one doesn’t fit in, but I like it for some reason. Some of the cheesy ones (basically any live-action show on the Disney Channel) are enjoyable too, but I usually only laugh at them when they make some sort of inside joke or some sort of reference the target audience wouldn’t get (having Hannah Montana call Rob Reiner a “meathead,” introducing a freeze-frame spell invented by a wizard named Jay Giles, etc.) And the related music is pretty catchy for what it is: I still think Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil are the Richard and Robert Sherman of this generation given how much memorable music they’ve written for Disney. The kids of today will remember their songs just as much as the kids of the '60s remember It’s A Small World and what have you.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies <hangs head in shame>…

Also crappy 80’s slasher/horror movies… the crappier the better (Slumber Party Massacre and Scanners, I’m looking at you)

For food, it’s potted meat and deviled ham (don’t want to know what’s in it… la la la, I’m not listening)

Though I consider myself a beer snob, I have to admit I really like Schlitz beer. Yes it’s swill, but it really hits the spot on a hot day when you’ve been outside working.

I saw a bit of it because I knew that Tori Spelling would be guest starring, and I saw Donna and Kelly hanging out. But the rest was too dull for words.

I also know Dawson’s Creek in particular sucks. But a little part of me, every time I watch season one, wants Joey and Dawson to finally get together and for Dawson to throw over Jen. Even though I think Dawson’s a pompous ass (and I LOVE reading Television Without Pity’s assessment of him and his hair). Even though, especially in later seasons, I like Jen. And even though, as the series goes by, I grew to loathe Joey. Oh, bad TV, you draw me in–I am as a moth to the blue glow.

See, I was a Joey and Pacey girl myself. I’m only slightly embarrassed to say their story was what hooked me on that crappy show. I didn’t have any emotional attachment to Dawson, and thought he was a complete turd.

Zombie movies. Sure, some are very very good (the original Night of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later), but most are bad. Really bad. (Rave to the Grave, House of the Dead, I’m looking at you.) But I just Can’t. Get. Enough. Love them.

Television shows that showcase “the crazy.” In my living room, these include Brett Michael’s Rock of Love (VH1 is a demon network; luckily I haven’t been sucked into the other shows on it. I’m still convinced that Brett picked who he did this year just to have another season, though) and Stormchasers on Discovery (seriously - those guys are insane.) I love that both of these shows used to air on Sundays in addition to whatever day they’re originally broadcast on. It’s the routine at Casa Snicks to turn on the tube Sunday night for “the crazy.” Yep, I really call it that. “Hey honey, wanna watch the crazy with me? It’s almost time.”

When I read the thread title, KOQ was what I was going to mention. Kevin James is an *awesome *stand-up and I was willing to cut him some slack on the show and I came to really enjoy it.

It’s a good show. It’s like Wings and News Radio were. All very decent shows that were never terrible, usually pretty decent and occassionally awesome.

Also, I am pretty much a movie snob, but LOVE Big Trouble in Little China. It totally deserved to be a Franchise as big as Indiana Jones.

I’ve never heard Kevin James do stand up, but I bet he is good at it, based on the times I have seen him on Conan or Leno. He seems like a naturally funny person, and based on what I have heard, an all around nice guy…

I never saw “Wings” but like you, I also enjoyed “News Radio” (I always liked Phil Hartman, and think that the stunning Maura Tierney is one of the most attractive women on television)

I LOVED the show Elimidate…why isn’t it on anymore.

The Girls Next Door, Kendra…what’s the matter with me?

The Da-Vinci Code. Trashy novel with cardboard characters, but a great page-turner.
