stupid "friends" question

I was watching a repeat of “Friends” today, and it was the one where Chandler had to pretend to be hot for Phoebe, while she was pretending to be hot for him. (They were each trying to trick each other into revealing the truth about Chandler and Monica’s relationship.)

Anyway, Chandler stopped the whole charade after kissing Phoebe, saying, “I can’t…because I’M IN LOVE WITH MONICA!” Now, this was a very big TV moment, I suppose, which is fine. The audience oohed and aahed because hey, he just said this big love thing for the first time.

Then I remembered, didn’t the exact same thing happen in another episode, when Monica had a turkey or her head. Chandler laughed and said, “You’re so funny. I love you.” Then he comically tried to take it back, blah blah blah. But then this became another big TV moment, because he said this big love thing.

Was this just a continuity error, or what? Why would one couple need two “guy says he loves girl for the first time” moments, anyway?

(I can’t believe I’ve sunk so low as to start a “Friends” thread.)

Turkey time was just to Monica, and he tried to take it back. The Phoebe time was to the whole gang, and he didn’t take it back.

Well, if I remember right, Chandler first confessed his love for Moncia during the whole Phoebe thing, but the turkey on the head dance was the first time he told Monica he loved her.

BTW, couldn’t you suffocate from a turkey on your head, and who’s head is small enough, or conversely, what turkey is big enough to hold someone’s head. And besides, putting your head inside raw meat - EW!

The continuity error that bugged me in Friends was when they were watching the video from Rachel and Monica’s prom which shows Ross playing keyboard and mentioning “working on his music.” Chandler (not in the video) incredulously comments, “Your music?” In a later episode (also with videos), we learn that Chandler was the singer in Ross’ ‘band.’

I am ashamed to know this.

Tertius - I don’t see that as continuity error. I didn’t see surprise, I saw scorn.
