Stupid Hummer Commercial

Yeah, they make a lot of them, but I’m addressing the one that has the guy at the observatory, who sees the incoming asteroid. Then he hops in his tiny car, and goes and buys a Hummer, because, apparently, they’re along with the roaches when it comes to surviving the holocaust.

Anyways, am I the only one that notices that his new vehicle has a California license plate on it, yet when they zoom out of the planet and deliver the marketing tagline, Cyprus is the country they zoom from?
How’s THAT for a clunky sentence?

Why do you hate the Big 3 ? They love you :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I saw that commercial and thought it was quite stupid. I saw it as saying that since the planet was screwed by the incoming asteroid, might as well buy a Hummer. Can’t get any worse.

Seems to me that that’s practically admitting that Hummers are bad for the planet. (not that they aren’t, but you wouldn’t expect the manufacturer to admit it)

They love me to buy their monstrous creations. The review on the new Hummer is pathetic. It’s huge on the outside and small and cramped on the inside. Let’s not mention how shitty the fuel economy is.

Yeah, grand car, GM, graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.

It makes sense to me that they would make stupid commercials to attract the stupid people that buy the damn things.

I also want to state, for the record, that I don’t like Hummers…but I DO love hummers.

That’s what I was going to say, but I couldn’t think of a tactful way to phrase it…

You know, I think this one is actually a decent commercial. It’s a tough car so it can survive anything thrown at it isn’t a bad thing. What I hated were those ads that implied one had to purchase a Hummer in order to reclaim their balls.

I still hate Hummers. I can’t help but think “asshole” whenever I see one. It isn’t rational, I know, but there it is.

A agree with all of the above when applied to the H2 and later models, also known as chevy-pickup-trucks-only-with-uglier-bodies.

The origional Hummers, based on the Military HumVees were cool as anything though.

I don’t know if that tops one of the billboards I saw out here (on I-70). It had a picture of an H3 and the tagline was, “Now with a new feature, affordability.” the price listed on the billboard? $28,935!

New 06 Pathfinder owner here. From a long line of 4x4s. $32,500 back in May.

Great vehicle.

I have some new, and our first neighbors on our road. They are from NY originally, and then more recently they are from New Mexico. I have been a bit of a tutor to them at what it means to live in the Colorado Rockies.

They ask for help. And advice. I’ve been at altitude for 15 years.

So. Gently, I help, give advice. And have also let them learn from there own experiance. We are all differnt, and have different needs.

They have a 4x4 Chevy truck that the husband wanted to put a plow on. And the Wife had just bought a used CJ Rubicon with Mud-Terrains on it (they very nearly stuck it in our drive 2 weeks ago).

Sort of OK. But the Husband wanted to drive his truck with the plow as a daily driver, which is not a good idea. Espesially if you have a steep uphill driveway.

You can not plow a foot of snow up a 17% grade drive. And you don’t want to drag a plow around with you on your every day driver 1/2 ton pick up.

So, he bought a great little used CJ7 with a Western plow on it that he can leave up at the top of the drive.

And, I think they have traded in the Wifes CJ Ribicon for an H3. They got a hell of a deal on the H3 (I think). And as fun as the CJ is to drive around, the short wheel base sucks on frozen mountain highways at 60 mph. And a CJ/Wrangler whatever is just too small for two people with two dogs that want to go anywhere. Been there, with my '84 CJ7. It’s good off road, but does not have enough room for a road trip.

Now. I’ve never been a fan of any of the Hummers for where I live. Even the H1. And I Know little about the H3. But. A 4x4 Chevy 1/2 ton. An '84 CJ7 with a plow (excpet its a manual, manuals are bad for plowing) and an H3 is about the right set up for a couple with two large dogs where I live. Heck, if they had kids, it would work too.

My set up is a '76 Chevy Short Bed Plow truck (chained on all 4). My '06 Pathfinder. My Wifes '02 Grand Jeep, and an Alis Chalmers 4x4 loader.

There are uses for these vehicles.

I certainly don’t deny that there are uses for big vehicles. The Hummer, however, for your regular Joe is just a waste of money.

I don’t like the Hummer ads with the magician, especially the one where I’m supposed to be wowed by the fact that the gas mileage is slightly less shitty than before.

A Hummer in the mountains is perfectly acceptable to me. It’s when I see them in the wilds of Chicago’s North Shore pulling out of their heated garages, headed to their heated office garages with the hardest obstacle in their path being the on ramp to !-94 that I shake my head.

These are the same people who will slow their Hummers and Land Rovers down to complete stop, then gently bump over a 1" cut in the pavement, that kills me!
