Stupid liberal idea of the day

By that logic Abraham Lincoln and the entire Civil War played no part in shaping America. Manifest Destiny and the Trans-Continental Railroad had no lasting effect on American society. MLK did nothing of long term importance. Even Tea Party hero Reagan was born 200 years too late to contribute in any meaningful way.

“There can be only one.”

'Cos even though he’s called “Clothy,” they won’t let him be a part of the fabric…

Thanks for the help. I had hoped he’d mentioned the accomplishments of my peeps at some point, I just couldn’t find it searching on Yahoo.

And no, I would never search the White House site. I find government websites in general to be less than useless.

Except in this case, where it was exactly what you were looking for.

True. But I also figured a general search would bring it up. Instead, all it brought up were sites saying that the Jews were behind Obama’s rise. Which says a lot of good things about Obama, if true, but not what I was looking for.

adaher, I hope you will treat this question seriously, because it seriously perplexes me, and possibly others: why do you seem to feel that the only use of this board is to host what is clearly political advertising on your part? I’m not picking on you solely, because there are certainly plenty of other posters who do pretty much the same thing, but as long as you’re here, I’m wondering what you get out of it. Especially, and I apologize sincerely for having to say this, because you really don’t seem to be all that effective at it.

That’s because it’s not what I’m trying to do. I mainly see my role as pushing back against some of the more inane things liberals say that don’t normally get challenged. Of course, that means I say a lot of dumb things too, but as you’ve seen ,there’s no shortage of bullshit detectors on your side.

It’s funny that you seem to have much more success with your searching and citing when you’re looking for something that will reinforce your own beliefs.

Now you know how we feel about you!

Every village needs an idiot.

But just the one.

I find that just bizarre, from a logical standpoint. “Side A says a bunch of stuff that’s probably bullshit, so I’ll counterbalance that by doing exactly the same thing” is simply not a winning strategy. More people than I think you give credit for, can see through that kind of thing.

OK, so now we’ve got two sources of probable bullshit. How does that promote your particular cause? Wouldn’t it be better, in the long run, to be thought of as someone who is rigorous about the facts, than the guy who just posts any old thing, as long as it comes off as expressing an opposing viewpoint?

I hope you’ll take this in the spirit it’s intended. It’s feedback, nothing more. I like to read, and participate in, effective argumentation, but I also recognize that I can’t spend enough time on this as would be necessary to run with the big dogs. That’s why you don’t see that much of me in the political threads. If you do, however, you can bet I’ve made some minimal effort to get my facts straight. “I’d never consider checking the White House web site to search the content of a President’s speeches”? Seriously? Give me a break.

All the above can apply to certain members of “my side”, if that’s what they are. I’d of course say all the above applies to the OP of this thread, but that guy’s beyond any hope.

Anyway, feel free to ignore anything I might have to say. Keep on fighting the…fight, if that’s what makes you happy.

The White House website is a spin and propaganda site. Sure, it would be useful for searching for Presidential speeches, but pardon me for not thinking of that,in much the same way you wouldn’t think to search for info on Sean Hannity by searching the Fox site.

The White House website publishes the full text of every speech and proclamation made by the president, and transcripts of all his public comments, including things like press conferences.

For those things, it is completely reliable and nonpartisan. I checked the website frequently for information when George W. Bush was president. Hell, it was a convenient place to find a compendium of all his stupid remarks. Sort of like the SDMB is for yours.

True. But being that I don’t frequent it much, it’s understandable that I wouldn’t think of it.

Anyway, I came across this. I’m not sure it’s a stupid liberal idea, but it’s a dumb as hell liberal argument made very frequently on the ignorance fighting site: that the Republicans block everything Obama wants to do. A few days ago, the President signed a rather significant bipartisan bill:

Congress still produces plenty of new laws and updates to old laws. It’s true that the two sides have more trouble coming to agreements than in the past, but it’s not fair to claim the Republicans are obstructing Obama so much that they are to blame for his failures. Which of course aren’t happening. Unless it’s the Republicans’ fault.

This is true of so many things, unfortunately. Maybe it should be your sig.

Or perhaps the President’s. An ebola case nearly made it to our shores today. I hope he’s engaged on this issue.

And today, the Senate passed a highway funding bill. It’s not going to be signed into law just yet, because the House passed something very different, but it’s pretty clear that the Senate can work just fine if the President isn’t poisoning the atmosphere with partisan attacks and Reid isn’t filling up the amendment tree.

I had no idea he was a practicing physician.

So you think the President had been poisoning the atmosphere since he was sworn in, and recently stopped? Got any quotes to back that up?
Please, no one tell him where to look.
