Every reporter should have asked why a nuclear deal that gave Iran everything it wanted couldn’t even give the smallest concession – the return of four American prisoners – in return. The story here should be all the other lickspittles who were lined up to ask “do you think the deal you made with Iran was historically great, or epochally awesome” and why we tolerate this sort of fanboyism from the media.
The legions of starry-eyed Obama fangirls lined up here to join in the denunciation of the man who dared question the Messiah are just proving my point. He’s the fucking President. He should grow a goddamn pair and stop looking for the nearest fainting couch whenever someone disagrees with him. Six goddamn years now of this persecution complex.
So to my request that you close your eyes and review the exchange objectively, or with opposite partisan tinge, your answer is No, you’re incapable of introspection. Got it.
Helen Thomas made incoherent stump speeches about Iraq that didn’t even pretend to be questions, at every GWB press conference. This happened like 50 times. Not even the right-wing media got into this much of a temper tantrum over it. Certainly the Salon-reading people who pretend to be the Party Of Rational Adults didn’t.
As someone who belongs to neither party and can’t decide whether GWB or Obama is the worst President in American history, I am the only “objective” person in this conversation, and from my objective point of view, this is a meltdown from people who view Obama as a deity and actually experience mental and physical discomfort when they see anyone questioning him.
I’ve seen this before from you, but you should really try to remember that the incessant and absurd spin you apply to your every assertion does you no favors. Not a single assertion you have made above is supported by anything in the link you provided. Obama gave a direct and reasonable answer to a direct question clearly meant as a ‘gotcha’. I get that you didn’t like it. Please stop lying about your motives and intentions, however.
Jesus, he let the guy ask his question, and he answered it. He was clearly pissed, but he controlled himself and – again – did answer the question with a well-reasoned response. What about Obama’s reaction resembled “looking for the nearest fainting couch” or a “persecution complex”? Reporter asks an aggressive question, President bristles but answers. What would it look like if Obama “grew a pair”? Tell the guy to go fuck himself? Or would you only be satisfied if the answer was, “You’re right, Major, I suck. I totally dropped the ball there. I don’t care about those four guys.” Honestly, what reaction would you want there?
Wow, your planet has a pretty low threshold for what constitutes a “meltdown”. Seems like you were hoping for one, and had to settle for one that is swirling around your own mind.
Haberdash seems to believe Bill Maher melted down. He’s a political comedian, and not in any way a member of the press. He’s delighted with exchanges like the one between Obama and the reporter, as a source of another 30 seconds of filler on his show.
Not that you disagree with Maher’s assertion that a reporter asking a foreign policy question in a press conference is exactly equivalent to calling a black man a nigger. That’s the kind of thing you get thrown out of the club for.
He’s so objective that he can read the minds of folks like us who frequently criticize (and often praise) Obama, and determine that we’re melting down and see him as a god! That’s some Hannity-level objectivity there.
