Stupid liberal idea of the day

Also, we are assured that making white people mad makes them vote right-wing which then often results in people those white people don’t like suffering and sometimes dying. Sometimes it also results in the white people themselves suffering and dying, but they don’t seem to mind much as long as those other people are too.

CNN writes an article about how climate change is going to harm people’s mental health:

Now on the surface this seems entirely reasonable, but it’s actually a case study in liberal media bias. Climate change is a problem. It’s not the only problem. Terrorism causes mental health issues. Crime, the threat of nuclear war, the threat or actuality of conventional war, and adverse government action against individuals causes mental health problems. Rarely does a news outlet write about it, unless it’s in pursuit of a liberal goal. “Support government action on climate change! Not only will it make the Earth uninhabitable, it will make us crazy too!”

Yeah, it makes conservatives go insane and reveal their inner cowardice.

So those who were in the WTC and survived it by the skin of their teeth, just people with irrational fears, should just get over it?

True, CNN would never have such an article about terrorism.

There are exceptions, but generally liberal media prefers to approach issues they care about from every possible angle, whereas issues of more general concern don’t really require that approach. CNN Is being activist here, trying to get people to give a damn. It’s not going to work.

What’s more annoying is how I found out about it. I have CNN.com set to alert me when major stories break. I do not need to be awakened for this.

Traumatic events can cause mental health problems. No, I don’t think that CNN thinks this article is going to change anyone’s mind about climate change. In fact, if you’re hoping the news will eventually get bored with climate change and just not report on it, you’re going to be very frustrated the rest of your life, because, news flash…

Responsible and competent news reporting would, I think, involve comprehensively looking at it from all angles.

That absolutely should be done, if you’re going to do it for all of the issues Americans care about more than climate change:

When I see a CNN article about the pain illegal immigrants cause, that will be notable.

That terrorism and war cause PTSD is, I think, fairly well accepted by most people. I think those facts have passed out of the realm of “news” and into the realm of “Francisco Franco is still dead.” But a link between climate change and PTSD is, you might say, “new”.

This is a slightly better attempt at finding a Stupid Liberal Idea than the one about the free thriller novel no one had heard of. Still pretty weak, though.

Probably not a great “stupid liberal idea” so much as demonstrating how liberal bias works in the media. CNN has been on a roll since Trump was elected. Maybe it’s a business decision. Go full Fox.

Well, I bicycled my 10 year old daughter and 5 year old son (clinging to my back) from Brooklyn Heights back home to Park Slope, with wet handkerchiefs tied over our faces, while the plume of putrid smoke billowed over us, on 9/11. And none of us hate All The Muslims now.

Sorry if you were actually IN the WTC. Why didn’t you just jump?

If Americans weren’t so damned short-sighted they might care more about climate change, as it is likely to cause more suffering and death than those illegal immigrants you keep whining about. Your willful ignorance is not going to change the reality of that, just because you don’t want to see it.

Pretty weak sauce for a “stupid liberal idea”:

Floods cause PTSD.
Global warming causes floods.
Therefore, Global Warming will cause PTSD.

It’s hardly a massive leap - people displaced by natural disasters suffer, and the main concern about global warming isn’t just things getting slightly warmer, but that it’ll cause more (and more severe) natural disasters. But the objection is that the article doesn’t list everything else that can also cause PTSD?

You’ve really struck pay-derp with this one, adaher. Lose ten points.

Not having a job, either due to displacement by foreign workers or because government regulations closed the mine, is here and now. It’s easy to think longterm when you are privileged, which is why climate change is primarily the #1 issue among the privileged.

Climate change could affect people’s mental health, but WHAT ABOUT 9/11!!!

Jesus Christ, man.

Yep, and of course this is why wealthy oil executives care the most about the future of our planet.
Oh, wait…

Also, unemployment is about as low now as it ever will be. So basically you’re saying we don’t get to talk about any other issues, ever.

Oh sure, because loss of jobs and real estate from rising water levels isn’t stressfull in the least! Nor is experiencing an increase in severe weather events. Nor having wars start because of droughts (heard of a place called Syria?), or losgin food-security as extreme temperatures destroy crops.

Nope, that’s all privelege in your world! Don’t vote for the person who actually had a plan to ty and get some kind of jobs in your coal mining region. Nossir you vote for the New York goombah who said “let’s just re-open the mines!!!” like it was that fucking simple.

Climate change is important. Articles about it are literally written almost every day in the mainstream media. I just find the mental health angle, at least at this stage, to be laughable.

It reminds me of a fake headline, “Meteor destroys Earth, women and minorities worst affected”.

Climate change itself doesn’t affect your mental health. The fact that the Earth will become a lot harder to live on is what will affect mental health. What makes the story funny is that CNN warning that “We’re all gonna die!” isn’t working, so now they are trying, “We’re all gonna die and that’s gonna stress you out!”

There’s some kind of disconnect between these two sentences.

“The baseball bat didn’t kill her. What did it was a severe allergy to wood.”
