Stupid liberal idea of the day

I wonder what sort of numbers you would get if you asked how many police officers are killed each year by criminals? I suspect that that would by wildly overestimated as well, probably with the biases reversed.

Interestingly, 2020 had the highest line-of-duty death toll for police since 1974. 55% of those losses were attributed to COVID; 18% were from gunshots, just barely more than from traffic mishaps (usually, AIUI, it goes the other way by a lot).

Democrat pled guilty to ballot harvesting!

For a local Arizona election.

What do you think Mr MyPillow has been screaming about for the last year and a half?

Interesting to see the stupid liberal idea of the day thread lie dormant for a year.

Not that this makes it any better/less worse, two lines that caught my attention were “But there’s no sign her illegal ballot collection went beyond the small-town politics Fuentes was involved in.” and “It is the only case ever brought by the attorney general under the 2016 “ballot harvesting” law”.
So, I still think she should be punished just like anyone else, but this hardly suggests any type of wide spread voter fraud.

It always makes me wonder why people risk all the trouble they can get in for any type of election tampering just to do it on such a small scale.
If you’re risking jail time (she’s looking at 2 years), I’d think you’d want to at least move the needle. All she did was harvest 4 ballots (well, that’s all she’s being charged with).

Also worth noting, and again, I’m not defending her*, what she did is legal in many other states and legal, with restrictions, on her state. What made her actions illegal was that those ballots she returned didn’t belong to family members, household members or people she was providing care for.

*however, I’m curious if, ignoring intent, if she was aware what she was doing was illegal? I could see someone not realizing that dropping off their neighbor’s ballot is illegal. Unlike, say, casting multiple ballots in multiple jurisdictions or mailing in a ballot in your dead spouse’s name. In those cases, I can’t imagine any reasonable person would be unaware that what they’re doing is illegal.

Former mayor gets hired as a village manager, lets power go to her head and gets fired just over a year later.

[F]ormer Kankakee mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong, appears to have culminated in the manager’s ouster following the results of an investigation that painted her short tenure at the village’s helm as a disaster.

According to the report, which the village board made public on June 21, Wells-Armstrong “engaged in discriminatory conduct,” cultivated a workplace culture of fear and retaliation among lower level employees, and politicized the manager’s position — a role that is supposed to be apolitical.

What in that article indicates that she is a liberal?

This part, I think. Of course, to a right-wing asshat any behavior like that is solely the actions of liberals.

The article doesn’t, but her Wiki page says so.

I thought sure the article would be about Kenly, NC.

Why is that a stupid liberal idea?

Know what? Don’t care. I’ll take the L on the week Trump is announced as being under investigation AND the day that Schumer/Manchin/Biden absolutely clobbered McConnell.

I don’t know, but I guess the argument is that it could be a stupid liberal idea along the lines of “dumb town panders to ‘woke agenda’ by ‘diversity hiring’ Black town manager and she is so hostile and incompetent that she drives away the entire police force”.

At present there appears to be no concrete evidence as to what the new town manager’s actions were or why the police force resigned.

Yeah, I suppose there could be an argument that she was horrible at managing the police force. After all, they gave her plenty of time to prove herself. Fucking Hell.

The Maywood one, sure, there looks like there is some substance there.

The Kenly case thus far looks suspiciously like the all-white police force threw a whinytittybaby tantrum over having a black woman in charge and stomped off to sulk, particularly given the deliberately vague reasons they gave for doing do.

DING DING DING DING! We have a winnah!! Step right up and ger yer prize!

Putting a super-qualified black person in charge of white people? What could that possibly be but a stupid liberal idea? /s

And she didn’t turn white. Not even Once…! /s

That says Democrat, not liberal.

Yeah but, c’mon, that’s a reasonable inference based on the substantial overlap between those two categories. Especially if she worked for Bill Foster, who’s a fairly liberal Democrat. I vote we allow it.
