I’ve thrown up no smokescreen, and you’re totally not getting it. I’m criticizing the politics of it, so of course I’m criticizing the politicians.
In nearly every post you’ve made on the topic, you’ve said something false. Rather than own up, or even try not to say false things in the next post, you just go ahead and spew more easily provably false nonsense.
It’s like arguing with a three year old. I’m not sure if you’re the laziest poster in SDMB history, but it certainly seems like you put absolutely no effort into ensuring that what you post can actually be backed up.
A sergeant serving with him says he’s a traitor. Now you can criticize Republicans for echoing such comments, but they certainly didn’t invent them, and to focus on them is actually to engage in “Look over there! Tea Party!”
What the hell does “served with” mean? Perhaps if you offered more in the way of substantiation when you make such bald statements? Merely a suggestion, you understand.
Two posters in a row try to legalese the issue to death. Which is fine if we’re talking about trying him for something. We’re not. We’re merely pointing out that the trade might not have been the best idea. And that regular soldiers who were there speaking out is not “swiftboating” or a smear campaign. They are risking punishment themselves for talking, something they wouldn’t do if they were just trying to help the Republicans.
No, you’re not quite getting it, here. Substantiation refers to offering support for a statement, some sourcing, for instance. Who told you this, what are their boney fidos, what reason have we to trust their information?
Did Berghdahl actually abandon his post? Then there’s been no Swift Boating of Berghdahl.
And BTW an other than honorable discharge could mean a lot of things, many of which you wouldn’t consider proof of bad character. He could have been sleeping with his platoon sergeant for example.
I’d also note that a journalist delving into the military records of critics of the administration’s actions is classic Swift Boating.
There is a bill before Bobby Jindal, passed by the Louisiana legislature, to require that brain-dead pregnant women be kept on life support until the baby is born. It’s a stupid idea, and I wanted to criticize the Republicans for it, until I discovered that the bill was written by a Democratic legislator.
We know because the Army’s official report said it. I don’t care whether he’s tried or not, personally I’d rather he not be. He has received his punishment for his actions. But to me, the Army’s report is evidence enough for our purposes:
A newspaper article that reports secondhand information about a classified report “according to people briefed on it” does not add up to “we know because the Army’s official report said it.”
No, we don’t know. A newspaper writes that some people they talked to were briefed on a classified report. That’s not an official Army report.

So no, we do not know the exact circumstances of his disappearance/capture. You are wrong again.
I’ll take that over believing we don’t know becuase it’s a secret, so we’ll just buy whatever the administration says. Because if you want an entity with a worse record than me… I mean, anyone who trusts them is a fool.
We don’t know because all there are so far are allegations. We don’t know because the alleged deserter has had no chance to explain himself or face his accusers. We don’t know because there’s been no due fucking process. Holy shit dude… why do you even bother with this kind of worthless crap? Do you just type Hannity’s broadcast transcripts? Do you bother putting any thought into these posts at all?
