Stupid Social Justice Warrior Bullshit O' the Day.

Excellent example and textbook demonstration of what an SJW is, IMO.

Here’s another one from Australia about SJWs getting out of hand - a highly-respected gay journalist has been forced to resign from his position on the New South Wales Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby because of bullying from other LGBTQI people about things his employer does - and which the journalist had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with.

Hey, here’s another good one. Turns out, the new Star Trek show is going to have non-white people in it!

Fuckin’ SJWs, ruining everything, amirite?

I know what all of you alt-rightists want it to mean. Not that I think that’s what it is. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with fighting for social justice.

The kindest comment I ever received on one of my end-of-term student evaluations was “Total SJW.”

I thought the whole burrito thing was a load of shit, but hey, it is Portland.

She could probably come here, not say a word and make a fortune.

Please tell that this wasn’t at a real, accredited college.

I’m wondering where Chinese places with Mexican cooks fits into the equation. Or Korean places doing sushi. Or any of a number of other combinations. Or Rick Bayless.

At any rate, it’s not something anyone around here gives a shit about, and just because there’s some jackass morons in Portland who think it’s a big deal–so fucking what?

Yeah, the whole ‘cultural appropriation’ thing is a load of horseshit. Cultures grow by syncretism - picking things up from neighboring or co-existing cultures and immigrants. Just look a the entire Southwestern horse-culture of the native Americans. Hey, those were Spanish animals that got loose. Who the fuck thinks that was some kind of offensive cultural appropriation?

Is that a satire site? Has the nation really jumped the shark?

It’s a big country. There’s always gonna be a certain percentage of idiots. Not a big deal.

It’s a big deal to the ladies who owned the business.

Clearly you have no fucking clue about Portland. I do. I know exactly what it is like, having grown up there. If you perceive Portland as “super liberal”, you are so damn blind you make Helen Keller look like a fucking eagle.

Ignorant twit.

Theoretically there’s nothing wrong with fighting for men’s rights, but I think we can all agree that Men’s Rights Activist is not a positive term.

If you’re trying to bring up nonsense, perhaps it would help your case if you didn’t selectively cut out the parts of the “nonsense” that try to explain the author’s viewpoint. Like the fact that these women blatantly admitted to not just cultural appropriation but actually stealing intellectual property. If they had done this with a recipe from a well-known restaurant rather than a taco shack in Tijuana, they’d have a lawsuit on their hands faster than you can say “Taco Tuesday”. Or just the explanation offered in the article of why cultural appropriation matters in general and in this case in particular. This is pretty fucking blatant quote-mining.

A google doc linked in the article has a very nice explanation of this kind of thing:

I encourage everyone to, y’know, actually read the article. It’s really easy to make these things sound stupid when you remove the entire thrust of the argument. If you have to reach this far to make your case, how fucking weak is your case? You remind me of this asshole. There’s some dumb people saying stupid things about cultural appropriation. A couple of white people literally stealing recipes from people, then bringing it back to open their own “ethnic” restaurant is not that stupid or innocuous.

…from your cite:
“There is a difference between having a debate on an issue, and personally attacking someone,” the statement said.

“The behaviour that has been shown this week towards particular individuals that have proudly volunteered for our organisation has been nothing short of appalling. It is damaging, and there should be consequences for those responsible.”
It seems like SJW’s are the hero of this story, wouldn’t you agree?

Not at all. If some SJWs weren’t attacking someone for something their employer does there wouldn’t be a story in the first place.

I’ll acknowledge it’s a case of #NotAllSJWs but it still stands as an example of “Stupid Social Justice Warrior Bullshit Of The Day”, as per the thread title.

…the SJW’s were defending an SJW in the story you cited, were they not? And what makes you think the people attacking the SJW’s were SJW’s?

SJW’s defending an SJW doesn’t sound like bullshit to me. The only reason I even bothered to read that article was because you posted it. Maybe if you stopped getting outraged by this bullshit, there would be less bullshit in your day. You could spend more time in your day job, investigating SJW bullshit in the media like you claimed you were going to do. How is your investigation going?

Because it seems they were fighting for a “Social Justice” in which someone who had the wrong employer (one that didn’t support Gay Rights) was being punished for being part of a large company that doesn’t support gay rights - basically being a “fellow traveller” even though that clearly wasn’t the situation at all.

I don’t recall claiming I was going to investigate SJW bullshit in the media, either as part of my day job or otherwise.

I’d like to hear their side of the story, too, but I can’t seem to find anything. I can’t find anything on Yelp about them that predates the cultural appropriation story. Every review is from 5/18 onward. It’s just a weird story. Judging by the comments in local Portland media and Yelp, I’d think this publicity would actually help them, since there seems to be a sizeable contingent of “fuck the SJWs” even in Portland. But I suppose dealing with SJWs who showed up (I assume) at the pop up took its toll.

Odd story all around.

That’s what I was wanting to come here to point out.

The writer of the article is an idiot, I will agree with that, and many of the critics of the taco truck were pretty stupid as well.

However, these women were not innocent cultural appropriators. They were thieves.

I used to be a chef, and if someone were to come into my restaurant, eat my food, and replicate my recipe for their own use, I would be honored, imitation is the highest for of flattery, after all. If they instead came snooping and peering in my windows to learn my recipes and techniques, that’s just theft, and that would piss me right the fuck off.

From a brief pursuing of the matter, I do not think it was the SJW’s that got the food truck shut down, but these women’s poor business skills. Even with their stolen recipes, they were not making money. I am sure they would like to blame it on unfair criticism, but not only is the criticism fair, as they were not “inspired” to open a food truck by their vacation, but instead actually behaved in an unethical fashion in order to steal the intellectual property from those who they thought would not be able to protect their rights, but they also really need to lay the blame on their lack of business skills. One thing I learned in the restaurant industry is just having a good recipe is not going to get you very far.

So, congrats, I suppose you can take comfort in the fact that you have identified an SJW, in that the author is a bit of an asshole, but all the other points you made in your post are contrary to reality.
