Because of the lack of avatars outside of the hack, and outside entirely of the Tapatalk interface, I rarely take notice of the trending in posting of a particular user. But recently there are two users I have noticed, and so I’ve been wanting to follow their posts.
I know the PTB usually won’t or can’t change things in the board in a technical way, but I’ll make the request anyway, in case there is a great board agreement, or easy way to implement it.
I propose that in addition to subscribing automatically to threads a user posts in, or otherwise subscribes to, there be an option to also subscribe to any post by designated users one subscribes to or SDMB “befriends”.
I welcome the expected debunking and naysaying, but nonetheless hold out some small hope this might be implemented.
I’ll note that, normally I would try the usual google alerts hack, but that no longer seems to be working reliably - however I’m willing to entertain working alternatives.
I just click the little circle to the right of the users name. This opens a menu that includes the option to show all posts by that user. I know this isn’t exactly what you want, but it’s the only way I know to [del]stalk[/del] follow your favourite posters.
Well, for me on my phone, the bookmarked search results page refuses to update. Once at the page, I have to click on the user’s name again. That will open their profile. Click on ‘Show all statistics’. Then click ‘Find all posts by…’
That will load an updated page.
So I guess this might be helpful if you notice a new poster you find interesting - just bookmark their post, or search results, and you can quickly access their post history in the future.
Of course there’s the other option - just go direct to the main search page, and do a manual search for posts by that user.
Google alerts for SDMB activity don’t seem to be working reliably for me any more for some reason.
If copying the URL of a page doesn’t get you to the page you are looking for, sometimes it means the link was redirected. In those cases, copy the link from the referring page instead.
I can’t speak for **jackdavinci **but I’m pretty sure he was referring to the ease with which one can recognize familiar posters when scanning long threads. With avatars enabled it is very simple to spot a post by a favorite (or non-favorite) poster, mod, etc. in any thread at a glance.
Just replace the last four digits with the user’s board number which can be seen when you hover your cursor over their name. It’s also a great way to pull up all of one’s own posts if one searches for one’s own posts often.
