Sure, but which of those performances do you think is closer to his actual ability? Bear in mind that Freeman’s #1, 2 3 and 4 wide receivers, #2 tight end and starting tailback are rookies or second-year players.
There are only four really experienced players on the whole offense: Kellen Winslow and the right side of the offensive line.
Indianapolis continued their nation-wide tour of suck. On top of that, there are now no other teams with fewer than two wins, giving the Colts a cushion for Luck (who looked pedestrian against my Ducks this weekend).
The dolphins played pretty decently all year - they haven’t been blown out that I recall - they’ve just had some tough losses. They were never that abysmal.
The Indianapolis Colts keep steaming along like a shit on rails. Props to Curtis Painter, who kept the perfection hopes alive by throwing interceptions twice into the end zone, instead of scoring.
The next two teams in line are the Rams and Vikings, both at 2-9.
And a home game the week of Christmas against Houston. With that stout defense and run game, the Texans should still win the game. But it is a Thursday game, and they are on their 3rd string QB.
And even with a reasonable defense, Jacksonville is sitting at 3-8. If the Jags decide to mail it in for the final game, that’s another shot.
As a Lions fan, I honestly don’t want anyone to match their record. Some things are just too perfect, too special to be copied.
But if anyone were going to do it, I’d like it to be the Colts. To go from being a constant super bowl possibility to matching the league laughingstocks for biggest waste of a season.
It’s not a waste of a season. They get the (apparently) best QB prospect since Peyton Manning. So they have to have one off year to get another 15 years of dominance. That possibility makes me sick.
As I’m in Houston, the confluence of Manning’s season-long injury and Luck entering the draft (as well as the absolutely ridiculous number of injuries the Texans have had this year) makes me tempted to believe there may be a God and that the Texans have offended him mightily.
I don’t think they will. The Colts know they still have a window where the team they built to complement Manning is together. Plus, Luck will be paid a lot less than first overall picks of the past - so much so that keeping both wouldn’t be cost prohibitive.
Assuming Manning reworks his contract- and there’s no reason to think he won’t- I think he stays in Indy for a couple more years and Luck sits.
