Except that they are extremely, extremely high in calories (2,100 per 2 cups). Which makes them a bad choice for the calorie-counting OP.
Er, almonds that is. Fruit is almost always low in calories if its fresh and not canned.
Regarding Splenda (and other artificial sweeteners): I’ve heard that they trigger the same insulin reaction that real sugars do, so that while they do not provide calories, they do have an effect on body chemistry which may be nearly as bad as if sugar had been consumed.
There are non-refined-sugar sweeteners that don’t do this (such as stevia), but they’re not found in commercial products and IMO don’t taste very good anyway.
My favorite low calorie crunchy thing is…ice. Man, I can eat it all day. I’ll pay for it later with my teeth. :rolleyes:
