Let's talk about delicious desserts - under 200 calories

God do I love dessert. It’s largely what’s kept me from losing those pesky 10 lbs. But I’m committed to not eating a bacon and chocolate deep fried and powder sugared thing, and I’m growing tired of my usual default healthy dessert, Skinny Cow and other Klondike type bars. It’s cold anyways, so a warmer dessert would be better.

I also love this dessert from EatingWell, Apple Nut Crisp, but inevitably it is way too hard to keep the portion size down, and the serving size is 275 calories.

So, what are your favorite low calorie desserts, to stave off gnawing on a dozen donuts?

I need to lose more weight than you do. I am also a lover of dessert. At the end of an evening I do find myself wanting “just a little something sweet”. Yoplait chocolate mousse yogurt does not fool me onto thinking it’s rich delicious mousse. It does however, bat the sweet craving back down.

Another option is a bowl of sweetish cereal with nonfat milk. I like frosted mini wheats.

Otherwise it’s try to eat one cookie which sometimes works for me and sometimes doesn’t.

I’ve fallen in love with (no joke) Fudgsicles with no sugar added. They’re 40 calories for one pop, 10g carbs, 2g fiber. They’re genuinely chocolatey and creamy and hit the spot when you need some chocolate.

E: …And I totally missed where you said you were tired of bars. Sorry about that.

This chocolate mousse recipe. I’m not going to add up the calorie count, but it should be close enough. It replaces the whipped cream that’s usually used with increased beaten egg whites. Use pasteurized eggs if you don’t want to live dangerously.

I know you are trying for a warm desert but my all-time favorite is Smart Ones Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae. The portion size is really small but IIRC it’s under 200 calories per serving. The deliciousness that is the sundae easily makes up for the small portion size.

This is a bit of a stretch as a desert but it’s really sweet so could hit the spot. Toast a Fiber One Lite Whole Wheat English Muffin. Top with 1 tablespoon Country Crock Spreadable Butter (or leave off to save some cals) and 1 tablespoon of organic strawberry fruit spread. This is my latest addiction. I could eat about 4 of these a day! I think it comes in around 220 cals in all but could be reduced by reducing the amount of the spreads or leaving out the butter altogether.

Strawberries.

  1. Stewed strawberries & rhubarb.

1 cup rhubarb (about a stalk) chopped in chunks = 26 calories
2 cups raw strawberries, stems removed & quartered = 100 calories
3 tsp sugar = 48 calories

Put the fruit in a small pan with a little water, cover, and simmer and stir until it has become a smooth glop. (15-20minutes?) Stir in the sugar, spoon into dish, and top with a 2- TBSP spritz of Reddi-whip canned whip cream (20 calories --surprising, right? its mostly air)

The texture is sort of like pudding. Its also good cold. You can, obviously, scale up the recipe, and portion it off after cooking.

  1. Toast a piece of multigrain bread (110 calories). While warm, spread with 1 TBSP Nutella (100 calories).

Baked lemon custard cake has 217 calories per serving, and is really, really tasty (not at all diet food). It’s very light and fluffy, so I have trouble stopping myself with just one serving, but if you bake it in ramekins, as the recipe recommends (I just bake it in a square pan, not having sufficient ramekins), it’d probably be easier to eat the recommended serving size. You can even serve it hot. Are the extra 17 calories too much?

Honestly, my favorite not-too-caloric dessert is partially-defrosted raspberries. Or possibly fresh figs.

You know what? I haven’t had a fudgsicle in years. And frankly, it wouldn’t kill me if I had two of them either. I’ll have to pick some up next time I’m at the store. Do you like a particular brand?

This…is not helpful. Especially with the season.

Ha! That’s what my mom does. I actually was drinking 3x glasses of milk a day, which is great if you’re a teenage boy, not so much if you’re trying to lose weight. I purposefully went for the more flavorful (IMO) 1% milk. So I only have it in my morning cereal.

Hello Again and needscoffee…man, those both are awesome. And exactly what I was looking for.

DoperChic, I’ve always gazed and those and thought “Oh they’re probably awful…” But hey, your recommendation is good enough for me.

Ramekins! Yes! I won’t go for another ramkin cause it’s a different container. The extra 17 calories are not too much at all

It’s not something you make, but the chocolate is outstanding: Lindt Lindor truffles. I don’t have any right now - I can’t resist the temptation - but I believe a serving is 3 truffles and comes in at 180-220 calories (I can’t remember exactly). And they’re really, really good.

I like to dip a banana in yogurt. Mmmm.

My sister used to make key lime pie with yogurt, non-fat whipped topping and sugar-free jello. I remember it being pretty tasty.

Banana, yes–but chunked up with Hershey’s syrup drizzled over it.

In my little stupid head, I was certain that these were each 200 calories. 3 of them? That’s super satisfying. Also added to the grocery list!

I love bananas but they upset my stomach :frowning:

I just get the Popsicle brand in the yellow box. (I was going to say, “Make sure you get the No Added Sugar kind,” but it looks like all of the kinds – even the big original sized bars – are 100 calories or less.)

Chocolate - I buy those fancy Lindt or other high-end bars and one square is almost always about 40-60 calories.

Mini Snickers Ice Cream Bars - well under 100 calories per bar and yummy.

The aforementioned fudgsicles and Lindt Truffles.

Sugar free jello with Cool Whip on top - VERY low calorie, the jello is only like 10 cals, the Cool Whip is not much depending on how much you add and what version you buy.

Sugar Free puddings are good and low-cal.

Hot chocolate made with Splenda syrup

Honey squirted right into my mouth. Not that I’d ever do that, nope, not me!

Athena, what is splenda syrup? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in the store, but perhaps I’m looking in the wrong place.

gallows, but if I get the under 100 calories ones, I can have TWO of them

I keep super high cocoa content squares of chocolate on hand for my “need a little sweet” cravings. I’m not a big fan of dark chocolate, but that one square (at 45 calories) satisfies me just fine. I like Ghiradelli Twilight Dark 72%. It’s about as dark a chocolate as I can stand eating.

There’s a few different brands. I don’t find many locally either, so I order from here once a year or so. If I get a few bottles, they last me a long time so it’s not that big of a deal.

Pumpkin pie is actually pretty low in calories, if you just make the filling and not the crust. Just pour the filling into a lightly greased baking pan and proceed according to the pie directions.

The filling, made according to the back of the Libby’s Pumpkin can except using evaporated skim milk, is 1,000 calories for the whole pie, not including crust. Divided in 8 servings (and I think 1/8 pie is a nice sized serving) its 125 calories. That leaves a little wiggle room for some whipped cream, or a few chocolate chips sprinkled on top, or just feeling virtuous.
