Let's talk about delicious desserts - under 200 calories

I think all of the low fat/sugar free Jello-brand puddings are great. They taste so … heavy? … that it makes me feel full. They do get stored in the fridge section at the supermarket but I would venture to guess there’s no reason you couldn’t heat that shit up in the microwave if you wanted it warm.

I’ll second the recommendation of DaVinci syrups made with Splenda. I’ve never had a bad experience with them.

I’m addicted to Popsicles – not the fudge ones, but the sugar-free orange, grape and cherry ones. I usually have to eat two - but they’re only 15 cal each I think.

This with fresh fruit cut up.

I am actually…and this is embarrassing to say. I am the world’s worst pie maker. I don’t know what it is, I can bake other things pretty well (I’m a better cook than baker) but every pie crust I have ever made is hard and disgusting. Unless I can find a pre-made partially whole wheat crust, delicious pie is out :(. Premade crusts, IIRC, have trans fat to boot.

Wait, I just read you said no crust. Really? Does it taste good and hold its form if refrigerated afterwards, or is it kind of a eat-it-in-one-sitting thing, so I’d have to be sure I brought it to someone’s house or somesuch.

Another + for splenda syrup from ZipperJJ. I’m curious to see if Whole Foods has splenda syrup; they have every other sweetener on the planet, so they just might. Otherwise I’ll grab it online.

Yeah, I mean, when you get right down to it, Pumpkin pie is just cooked pumpkin custard in a crust. So, without a crust… it’s cooked pumpkin custard! It doesn’t hold together quite as well, but it can be chilled and sliced, if perfecto slices aren’t too big a deal to you. Like pumpkin pie, it does get more liquidy in the fridge, but it doesn’t mean its “gone bad” or whatever. Taste-wise, it tastes as good as the inside of a pumpkin pie (which I like a lot, personally)

The last time I was in Whole Foods and asked about artificial sweeteners, they sniffed haughtily at the thought, but who knows what years of corporate growth hath wrought?

Yeah, I think the Splenda syrups are more Target than Whole Foods, but you never know. You can get a couple flavors at my local grocery stores, and coffee shops can special order them for you. Overall, I like the convenience and selection online.

Think of it as a pumpkin custard, not a pie, you scoop it into a bowl =)

I get liquid splenda at ssweetzfree.com. It is NOT a syrup, it is pure liquid splenda, no additives to thicken it or extend it [iirc it is like 1 drop = 1 tsp sugar equivalent] and is great in pumpkin custard or any other baked good that does not use sugar as a texturizer.

did you know that you can make apple custard by subbing in applesauce instead of pumpkin gloop? Or pear custard by blenderizing canned rinsed off bartlett pears into a purree?

Peach-Blackberry Compote with Basil Syrup- fancy looking and sounding, but easy and full of yum yum (and only 129 calories a serving). It’s still fresh peach time and we used some cheap, frozen blackberries when we made it. Blueberries would be good, too.

This time of year, I like these two ‘fake-out fruit crisp’ recipes (not that they’re complex enough to be considered recipes)

Fake-out Apple Crisp
1 medium crisp apple
2 packets Splenda
1 pinch brown sugar
Generous sprinkle cinnamon
A little nutmeg
1tsp. butter (only 36 calories)
2 ginger snaps (about 50 calories)

Core and cube apple, place in microwave-safe dish. Top with butter, Splenda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cover tightly with plastic wrap. Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until apples are tender. Stir well. Top with crushed ginger snaps.

Fake-out Pear Crisp
Same as above, but I go lighter on cinnamon, heavier on nutmeg. I like red-skinned pears for this.

I like almond jelly / almond tofu, and it’s usually served with fruit. Warabi mochi is really good, and food blog Chocolate & Zucchini has a recipe for it. When I was a kid, I enjoyed eating tangyuan, especially when it had black sesame filling and was cooked in red bean soup. It’s not that great for you, but if you don’t eat too many, it will certainly fall under 200 calories. Red bean soup and chilled mung bean soup are both good; the former is considered more of an autumn dish, and the latter is more of a summer treat.

Italian ice! That was my big thing this summer. It comes in all sorts of flavors, and it’s only 100 calories for a good-sized cup. I adore mango.

All the aforementioned suggestions are wonderful – I’ve done the Lindt truffles, the pumpkin custard (which reminds me…I should make some), the fruit crisps (I currently have apple-cranberry in the fridge), the fudgsicles, etc.

My husband has practically no willpower whatsoever when it comes to chocolate, but we did find something that’s easily portioned: Hershey’s Special Dark chocolate chips. We have a set of baby ramekins – I think they hold maybe 2-3 tablespoons – and use one of those for a serving. They’re chocolately, not too sweet, and it does quell the craving.

Weight Watchers Giant Fudge Bars are super creamy and delicious, and are only 110 calories each. (I’m going back on the WW plan and these are sure to be something I keep on hand, as they are only 1 point each!)

Get a fresh fig. cut in half. lay on a baking sheet. put 1/4 teaspoon honey on top.
Broil/grill until warm, carmelised and slightly blackened at the edges.
Serve with a small spoonful of natural yogurt/creme fraiche/low fat cream cheese/lo cal creamy topping of your choice, a very small drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of pistachios or walnuts.

Baked apple with cinnamon and raisins and a very little bit of brown sugar.

Frozen grapes- not a fan myself but my sister loves them.

Personally, I could eat bowls and bowls of hot Bird’s custard- the powder you mix with hot milk, but if you want to make it from scratch with eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla you could…a small portion wouldn’t be too caloirific.

If you’re looking for something warm, try oatmeal. Then add to the oatmeal whatever suits your mood at the time … raisins, honey, brown sugar, blueberries, or peanut butter, to name a few examples.

I googled just to be sure, and it seems to be the case: 3 truffles come in at 220 calories. So you can splurge and have all three, or just one or two. Win win!

Ooh - that reminds me. A friend does WW, and she gave me a bar the other day made by Weight Watchers. It had chocolate, pretzels, caramel, maybe granola or a chex mix type thing? Anyway, really similar to those Take5 chocolate bars around. Really, really good, and only 1 point too. (I didn’t check the calories; I’m betting it’s similar to the 110 Chanteuse quoted above.)

Problem is, I have no idea where to buy these; I’ve never seen them in stores. Are they something you buy directly from WW? Anyway, super tasty.

My problem is that I don’t think I’d be able to eat just one.

A couple of my favorites:

  1. I take a 50 calorie La Tortilla factory tortilla and smear it with 1 spoon of natural peanut butter. I nuke it in the microwave for 20 seconds. Then, I wrap the tortilla around a really ripe banana. It’s one of my favorite snacks.

  2. I know you said hot, but just in case…I like to take 2 graham crackers and smear some cool whip between them (you could also use vanilla yogurt or something like that). Then, I put it in the freezer for 30 minutes. It’s pretty yummy, you can vary it by adding a few mini chocolate chips or something between the layers.

Delicious. Going to try it this weekend then, in fact I can make it tomorrow for a little get together later that night. Whole Foods is the mecca of anything expensive - doesn’t have to be good for you. I saw a coupon for $1 off a small cup of “Icelandic yogurt”. Hey, it couldn’t cost more than $1.50, right? Wrong! $2.75, and almost 30 grams of sugar. I stuck the tiny coupon between the yogurts and went on my way.

Athena, I’ll check out Target as well. For some reason I had it in my head that Splenda syrup was more like agave nectar or somesuch.
Everyone, there literally isn’t a single suggestion (except the banana ones) that doesn’t sound delicious and worth making. I stopped quoting when I realized I’d be quoting every single person’s posts! :stuck_out_tongue: I will try and report back as I try them. Some of them I’ve had before but didn’t write down anywhere, so they escaped my memory.

This thread is going MUCH better than anticipated!

Vitamuffin tops are amazing. They really just taste like a chocolate cupcake or cake. I split one horizontally, put one marshmallow on one side, nuke briefly and sandwich. It’s a 135 calorie whoopie pie. Or you could use some lite Cool Whip or something. Really good. They have a load of fiber, too, so they’re filling and you won’t be jonesing for a snack later.

Expensive, though. I heard they have them at Costco cheaper.
I keep a box in the freezer for emergencies ;).
