My wife and I are putting together a slide show (digitally via iMovie) for my mother-in-law’s fiftieth birthday. I’m looking for music to accompany the photos, but am coming up a little short. I’m trying to avoid music I’ve already used in movies for my mom and her dad, as well as clichés like “We Are Family” or “The Way We Were.”
I’ll probably break the pics up either chronologically or by my MIL’s role (daughter, mother, friend, etc.) or some combination of the two, so any music that speaks to a particular time period (from 1955 to today) or role (particularly motherhood) would be great. I need to avoid anything that involves romantic love or retribution, as she is recently divorced from my FIL.
In the other shows I’ve used everything from swing to R&B to pop to soundtrack themes. I like the sound of female folk and country singers (Patty Griffin, Reba, Loretta Lynn, Joan Baez, etc), but I don’t know those genres too well.
If you’ve got any suggestions, I’d love to hear 'em. Bonus points for anyone who can find me a suitable song using her name—Brenda.
