My daughter’s piano teacher is doing a year end recital in mid November (so 2.5 months from now)
The “ingrate” has just sat her grade 7 exam (should’ve passed) and has been asked to learn a new song to perform…
I want her to step outside her comfort zone a little and try something a bit newer / different. She plays mostly from the Romantic period, but has also picked up some stuff like Richard Clayderman, Piano Man, and can play contemporary ballads with the sheet music.
Any suggestions? (very big preference towards songs where sheet music can be had free)
You probably should have put “piano” in the thread title
. Luckily, I sing and play piano.
How about something in between Romantic and modern: Gershwin? Might be a love it or hate it thing, but worth a try if she’s not experienced that style before.
I haven’t used the site before, but you can get a free pdf of “Summertime” in what looks like a reasonable piano arrangement here: Free sheet music : Gershwin, George - Porgy and Bess. - Summertime (Piano solo)
I’m not a piano teacher, but I would estimate it to be around grade 6 difficulty, which I think is about right - enough of a challenge, but possible to master for a public performance in a couple of months.
