Lurked for a long time, but somehow missed the fact that there’s a member named Needs2Know.
Shirly: as explained in a previous post (Dammit! I don’t get the 5000 points!), Mr Mxyzptlk is a long time Superman villian.
[geek mode] He’s an imp from the Fifth Dimension, who can alter our three Dimensional reality any way he damn well pleases. He cut a deal with Superman to make battling him a challenge: Trick him into writing or saying his name backwards, and Mxyzptlk (I really like Cut and Paste right now) vanishes back to 5D for 90 days. He appeared in the cartoon The Adventures Of Superman not too long ago, with voice provided by Gilbert Godfried.[/geek mode]

(Scene: a group of people in the basement of a church somewhere, they are sitting on cheap folding chairs and facing a podium with the initials N.A. on it)
BeerDog: “Hello everyone, my name is BeerDog and I’m a newbie”
Everyone (in same monotone group voice they use at all these meetings): “Hi BeerDog.”
BeerDog: " I’ve been a newbie for a couple of months now. I know what you are thinking, you think that I’ve been here long enough that I should be a seasoned veteran of the message boards by now. . ."
(Pauses for dramatic effect, takes deep breath . . .)
Meeting Leader: " Come on BeerDog, let it out."
BeerDog(eyes glistening with barely held back tears): “I’m a newbie-holic! No matter how long I have been a registered user, I just won’t post! I never think that my opinions are good enough or that I am smart enough to contribute, I just can’t compare to the dizzying intellects that are the members of the SDMB . . .”
*(breaks down into sobs)
(cue music, fade out)*
P.S. Wasn’t Mxyzptlk one of the villains on that old Justice League cartoon? The one with Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and other various super heroes. I seem to remember that Mxyzptlk looked like a little white haried guy that floated around and did some kind of magic. He also wore a purple bowler hat. Does this sound familiar? I may have just been drinking too much children’s cough medicine that day . . .

Hi, I’m definitely a newbie. I’m a professor of theatre arts. I am also a professional theatrical lighting and sound designer. My real name is Kelly. Revedge comes from the time I was in my college marching band. My band friends would call me the Reverend Edge. It was a running joke. I played tuba and to carry well in a football stadium you couldn’t play with a perfect tone, you had to put a little “edge” and it. The tuba section tended to make jokes about edge, and since I had a habit of dressing in black, they gave me that nickname. Stupid, I know. But fun.
BTW, this is my 70th post. Do I get a door prize?
