I honestly have no idea who will win this one. I’m rooting for Denver, but I have a sinking feeling that it will be 7-0 Seahawks after the first 9 seconds. (!!)
Seattle is going to have to pick off Peyton, hardly easy to do. I think short passes and a running game could win for either team.
Still, my pick is Denver 28, Seahawks 20. Seahawks fail on two touchdown drives and get field goals, fail on last try to tie, Peyton kneels for the win.
So far, so good for the NFL. Current weather prediction for Sunday, courtesy of Weather Underground, is 50/30, with 5-10 MPH winds, overcast, and a 20% chance of precipitation. I’m not seeing much effect on play with such benign conditions.
Most of the books I’ve seen have Denver -2.5, O/U either 47 or 48. I’m still taking the under and Seattle, but I’m less confident now than I was when it was projected to be 25 with 4-6 inches of snow.
Still, this is a very strange, unpredictable matchup. However, the over/under right now is 48 and I feel VERY confident in betting the under on that. Denver has not piled it up against playoff defenses and Seattle is the best defense there is, so I am thinking this is going to end up like a 24-17 kind of game.
E. Rutherford NJ, a town of about nine thousand, will close Park Avenue on Sunday, to fete the people who cannot get tickets, with snacks, music, etc. Best part, though, East Rutherford has been warned not to use “Super Bowl” or any logos or official IP, because the NFL (a 501(c)6 non-profit organization) has lots of expensive lawyers.
So if you happen to be in town, and have no tickets to get into BigCorpName Stadium, perhaps you can enjoy East Rutherford’s “Gameday Tailgate Party”.
I’m excited for the game. #1 offense led by one of the best QB’s to ever play the game against the #1 defense. The #1 defense is 4-1 in Super Bowls against the #1 offense, but the weather looks to be mild, which can help out Denver. It may be a nice test of the “defense wins championships” v. “you need an elite QB to win it all” canards.
Because I’m excited to watch it, I’ll go ahead and assume it will either be a blowout or a crappily played game where the officials have too much influence over the outcome. Personally, I’m not sold on anyone not named Marshawn Lynch on the Seattle offense, and the fact that Sherman generally plays only on one side of the field giving the Broncos some work-arounds, I’m thinking it will be an easy Denver win. If the Broncos’ receivers give up like Jimmy Graham did, Seattle can keep it close, but I think Welker, Decker, Thomas, and Thomas won’t wilt from the pressure.
