Yes, the hedgehog has been confirmed to be in the game. Hooray!

For anyone not keeping track, new characters so far are;

Pit (Kid Icarus)
Wario (well, Wario series)
Zero-Suit Samus Aran (Metroid)
Ike (Fire Emblem)
Pokemon Trainer (you play as and switch between Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard) (Pokemon)
Diddy Kong (Donkey Kong series)
Meta Knight (Kirby series)
Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
Lucas (basically a Ness clone) (Earthbound)
Sonic the Hedgehog (duh)

I am a happy bunny. Who else is planning on getting this magnificence of a game?

I can’t wait, although I’ve noticed that the official website no longer lists a Dec. 3rd release date but instead says TBD. I hope it’s not being pushed back again.

Although rumors about his appearance have been thrown around, I was very surprised when I read yesterday that Sonic’s appearance is official.

For those of you that don’t know, the official website is being updated Monday-Friday with new revelations. Good way to promote it, in my opinion.

When I was in high school, Sonic and Mario were mortal enemies! Now they can battle to the death!

Snake’s creator, Hideo Kojima, begged Masahiro Sakurai, who’s leading the SSBB team, to put Snake in the game. I’m fairly sure without that, Snake would have been passed over. Hell, Metal Gear hasn’t been on a Nintendo system since the original NES game.

Now that Sonic’s in, I’m waiting on some incarnation of Mega Man or Zero to show up.

Mega Man is my guess if any more third party characters make it in.

Actually, there was a Metal Gear game on the Game Boy Color in 2000 and a remake of Metal Gear Solid on the GameCube a few years ago.

And I too believe it’s only a matter of time before Mega Man shows up. I’d also put my money on Bomberman (Hudson and Nintendo are real close) and Rayman (there were a ton of rumors about this a year ago and it sounds too perfect not to be real).

I"m not planning on getting it, as I’m not a fan of the SSB games, but my husband is rather fond of party games so I know we’re going to wind up with a copy. I think he’s already counting down the days. That said, it will be fun to see some old faces from my childhood in there. I still remember running Sonic around in circles back in the days of the Genesis.
