I just saw the new Nintendo Direct, and I can’t believe how ambitious this game actually is. Yes, I’m sure people will still find problems with it, However I can’t think of a game for Wii U that packs in more content than this game.
I was really never into the Super Smash Bros. series, and it looks as if that doesn’t really matter, because there’s enough content to warrant a purchase for someone like me, even if I might have to farm for it by playing the various modes. There’s music of re-made classic games, you can set of scenes with classic video game characters and draw on them, there’s voice chat before and after each match, there’s stage editor where you can pretty much draw out a stage to play on the Wii U gamepad, there’s trophies of course, up to 8 players simultaneously, various game samples you can actually purchase on the e-shop…
You can play tournaments online where the customizing seems endless.
It’s pointless to try and explain everything this game has to offer, but I’m sure this will sell a lot of Wii-Us once it’s realized how much game you’re getting out of it. I predict that Nintendo will also be selling a lot of amiibos, special Wii U Lan Adapters, and Game Cube controlers, among other things.
Here’s the Nintendo Direct I just saw:
It's long, but it's takes a while to cram in all the content.
I’ve never been a big fan of Smash Bros, so I don’t know if I’ll be picking it up or not. But you’re right, the scope of this thing is amazing.
I was actually JUST coming here to post something about this game, but not about the content. I’ll make a few observations then add what I was going to put in it’s own thread at the end.
If you own a Wii U you really have no choice in the matter. It’s pretty much the only AAA game released on the system in almost a year.
Looking at the previews it looks fun enough, but just like most Nintendo games, it’s pretty much a rehash of the last 4 Smash Bros. Yeah there are new features but at it’s core its basically Madden but on a MUCH MUCH longer development schedule. Same game over and over with new bells and whistles. I’m not saying that’s necessarily a terrible thing if you’re really in to Smash Bros but it leads me to my original reason for hitting the game room which is…
Wii U Smash Bros has taken the cake as THE MOST OVER HYPED, OVER COVERED GAME of ALL TIME. Nintendo has been slowly trickling out info on the game since the Wii U came out two years ago. It’s been an IV drip of info. Every couple of week revealing a “new playable character” or a super move or something. This has basically been the only Wii U game that’s been discussed at any length in over a year. Nintendo has held full blown events to reveal a few nuggets of info over the last year. They tease, weeks in advance, that something new will be revealed and it ends up being a stage or extra power attack character or something. The Wii U sections of the gaming websites have NOTHING else to write about than Smash Bros updates and a few paragraphs on Bayonetta 2.
Bottom Line: This may end up being a great game, but it’s by far the most over hyped game in video gaming history.
ETA: If they HD-ized the Galaxy games I’d probably buy a Wii U.
I’m still beating the AAA games from past, so I have no complaints, and Bayonetta 2 is getting great reviews.
And when did Mario Kart 8 come out?
May, I think.
For me, all the hype about Smash is the fun part, since I don’t really care much about the game itself. There’s sort of a joyful lunacy to it.
