Superbowl Weddings

According to the ESPN, NFL Primtime hosts, this upcoming weekend has the fewest weddings by far, of all weekends. Theres something strangely comforting about that.

Yeah, I heard that on the radio this morning.

I wouldn’t read too much into it. I mean, seriously, who wants to get married in January, anyway???

Back in my restaurant days, I worked in the kitchen during a Super Bowl wedding. We set up a small B/W TV so we could watch the game. One of the ushers happened upon us…next thing you know, the groom, the rest of the ushers and a few other male guests crammed around to watch the game. When the bride noticed everyone was gone, she stormed into the kitchen and let loose with a fury like I’ve never seen before. I would have laughed except that she scared the crap out of me!

You know, I thought this thread would be about people getting married at the Superbowl – perhaps as part of the half-time show.

Now I have to get the image of John Madden in an aqua taffeta off-the-shoulder evening gown out of my mind…

rundogrun, that’s a pretty good story, hope it was one of the good games…but I mean come on, the groom was in there so he must have been a fan. Why, if you’re a fan, would you plan a wedding on super bowl Sunday?

whip cracking

[hijack]I just saw a squib in Newsweek about the winners of a competition to create the best Super Bowl snacks. One of the winners was a cake frosted to look like a football field. Blue chicken was also mentioned.

Good grief. There’s no way I would try to make Super Bowl food look cute, or look like anything. I’m just doing the yearly pizzas (Joe Peep’s crust!) and assorted beers and snacks.

I would never create something and try it out on a Super Bowl crowd. If someone has a specific request, I’ll fill it, or he can bring it himself. But apart from that, Super Bowl fans do not care what their food looks like, or even what it is in extreme cases.[/hijack]
