Lauren Graham.
I would have preferred Matt Bomer, but good enough. I’m glad Joe Manganiello wasn’t picked because although I like him, I think his nose is a little too strong to look like Superman, and he kind of gives off a ‘grown up frat boy’ vibe in most of his roles which is at odds with ‘boyscout’.
I love Zooey Deschanel and Eliza Dukshu but I don’t see either of them as Lois - the former is a bit too airy and the latter too edgy.
I do like Erica Durance, but she’s already on Smallville. Colbie Smulders isn’t too far off, assuming she can play it straight.
I’m more concerned about the plot though. They really need to completely cut ties with the Reeves version and make something new. Also, get rid of the whole snow crystal Krypton thing. I prefer the ‘everything sterile after years of wars over clones’ version. Luthor has been way overused, ditch him for one or more of the other rogues. And whoever you choose, do not make them a buffoon for comedic effect like previous villains.
You stole my thunder, as reading through the thread and everybody’s ideas of what kind of part LL should be I was thinking Alexis Bledel.
By the way, folks - it’s Christopher Reeve, not Reeves.
It was once George Reeves, though.
The recent (well, over the last 25 years) comics established that Superman ages very slowly, so if the movie-makers were brave, they could cast and older but still hot actress and still have the characters be the same age. Several comic writers have explored Lois’s concern that her aging will eventually make her unattractive to Superman and this could be touched on in a film, carefully.
And, heck, make a possible Wonder Woman subplot in a future film, as I earlier suggested, even more potentially delicious.
Right on both counts.
Very interesting. My husband came up with another interesting choice - Rashida Jones.
Well, I was about to post my brilliant thought about a potential candidate for Lois, but I see my wife has already stolen my thunder.
THBBBBBFT!!!
If we’re doing TV actresses, how about Anna Torv?
Awesome. I’d love that.
fify
Yes! Thank you! That always gets under my skin.
Yeah, just like a bedsore!
What, too soon?
It’s too bad too. I think Tom Welling makes a great Superman. He’s not as big as Christopher Reeve, but he’s still well built. He carries himself very well in the role. It would be difficult to write Smallville into a movie though. Since the series was carried so far, turning Clark Kent into the bumbling reporter would be next to impossible.
Also, rosenberg’s Lex Luthor was the best Lex Luthor ever. I love the likable, not quite pure evil villain and the transformation. I like the complicated desire to like him despite his psychopathy.
I agree that Michael Rosenbaum was the best Lex Luthor ever. I haven’t watched Smallville since he left.
I think he will be back at the end of this season. They certainly have hinted at it.
Sorry 'bout that.
I agree about Rosenbaum’s Lex Luthor - you just never knew what he was capable of.
There are reports out today that Kevin Costner will be playing Jonathan Kent.
:waits for the pile-on of Costner critics and the inevitable Dances With Superman jokes:
And the starting point was him coming back after being gone for years , and then the child. They really needed someone more mature for that script. Superman has been around a long time. It’s okay to have him look like he’s in his 30s.
I’d like to see a movie where Superman is older , Bruce Wayne is retired and Grayson is Batman. Bring in the new generation.
They are in the process of making Clark be the secret identity on Smallville. He has decided he needs to be more of a symbol and hide less, but he doesn’t want a mask. So he dons the glasses and begins to make Clark more meek and mild mannered.
This final season is supposed to end with him being in the costume. I doubt a movie version is in the works but I think Welling and Dunce make an good Lois and Clark.
Then there’s the advantage of all the other heroes introduced.
