Personally, I kinda would like to see the Smallville cast step up to make a feature film Superman as a fitting wrap to the TV series, but I don’t think the cast is nearly strong enough to pull off a big-screen adventure (and the script writers would have to suddenly learn how to not write teen-angsty schlock). But I’m interested to see how this new reboot plays out.
I’m another one who thought Routh did a good job as Superman in a movie that had some serious issues, particularly around the piss-poor casting of Lois and also the stupid Superkid. And the airplane rescue scene was so spectacularly awesome that it almost made the rest of the movie worthwhile, IMO.
I don’t get why this would be confusing. It would be an actress playing two different roles in two different movies. That doesn’t confuse people when it happens in non-Superhero movies. No one watching Remains of the Day was wondering why Hannibal Lector was working as a butler. Who’s not going to be able to figure out that Catwoman and Lois Lane are two separate characters?
I believe they cast Routh because he impersonated Reeve playing Superman. Routh was not the problem with Superman Returns. Reeve is the iconic Superman. With this new casting, it seems they will be taking the role in a new direction.
Casting idea for Lois Lane. Eliza Dushku could be good.
I dunno - can she play the part without bringing in a psycho-bitch vibe? Lois Lane ain’t exactly a girl scout, but she’s not a fraction as nutty as Dushku’s recent characters in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Buffy and DollHouse.
No, Miller’s 300 didnt have that video clip/high-profile-ad thing that the movie version went for. It didnt have that much hard-on for all that proto-gay (and probably involuntary) stuff present in the movie neither.
Didnt go for Watchmen because of this, somebody should tell Snyder we’ve moved into the 2010s. Using “fresh tricks” from the early 2000s is more than stale now (and was alrready tacky back then).
Too bad they couldnt get Singer and have him commit to a well thought-out reboot of the franchise. Superman cries for classicism, you can hardly beat Singer in that domain.
What are you babbling about? “Video clip/high-profile-ad thing”? Tricks from 2000? Bwuh?
And Singer had his chance. He screwed it up. I’ve said it before, but they did to just expand and remake The Last Son of Krypton episode of the recent Animated Series as the first movie. It would be awesome.
You take that back before someone hears you and thinks you’re serious. I think Eliza was one of the weakest links in the Buffy franchises because she can’t friggin’ act! I desperately want to see them cast a Lois Lane who shows us why she is included in the pantheon of superheroes in spite of being just a normal human being - in other words, I want this Lois Lane to be SPECIAL. She has to own every scene she’s in. It would be interesting if they cast her to be 10 or more years older than Superman (and more realistic, since she’s at the top of her game of journalist).
Contrast to the max, high shutter speed, fast forward/slow motions tricks, it fucking looks like a music video or a costly ad.
Those Spartans sure were mightily bling bling, what with the constant over the top bragging/shooting and the permanent music video antics.
Singer did blow it. But the project was badly handled by its producers. I dont think there seemed to be much thought about really launching a new franchise with the last Superman.
Ugh. If Singer hadn’t laid such a big turd with Superman Returns, they wouldn’t have to be rebooting again already. It would make no sense to put it back in his hands.
I find it odd that people think Christopher Reeves wasn’t bulky. He was much bulkier than either the Smallville or Superman Returns guys. He had a large chest and just looked big, just like Superman is usually drawn. It’s what made his portrayal of Clark Kent all the more amazing, as he pulled off looking bumbling while looking as he did.
Sure, he may not have been that muscular, but that’s not the same think as bulk.
I tend to think yes. “Tru Calling” wasn’t a show that earned Eliza a lot of props, but she played the part of an ordinary girl coming to terms with extraordinary situations well enough - except that the writing occasionally called for her to be nearly as dumb as a post. But even that, she sold me convincingly.
