Support your local farmers - a healthy and wholesome MMP

Well, I’ve been busy since getting home - go me! I’ve got sketty sauce thawing, vermicelli standing by, and a loaf of white bread in the machine on the quick bread setting. Once the pasta is boiling, I’ll throw together some salads, and we shall have a yummy, wholesome supper. So yay!

Work was meh again. We had a lunch meeting but the lunch provided was tacos. I don’t like tacos and I wasn’t going to eat lettuce on a tortilla. Luckily, I’d forgotten about the meeting and I brought an egg salad sammich, so I was good to go. And at the meeting after the lunch meeting, we pulled together a proposed priority list of countries to study. Afterwards, we needed to take a look at what info was extant on our system for these countries. In my area of specialty, there was pretty much zippo, so if we need to do analysis, I’ll be starting from scratch. Which is fine, if time consuming.

Also had a meeting with my boss about my objectives for the rating period. As usual, bottom line is if I do what is assigned to me, I pass. We’re going from a 1-5 scale to Acceptable/Unacceptable. Kinda like Pulse/No Pulse…

It’s drizzly and quite chilly out. I closed the house and turned up the heat to take the dampness away. Tomorrow will be dreary, too, but Thurs and Fri should be nice. Anyway, I’m waiting for the fambly to get home so we can have supper. Just another day at FairyChatEstates.

Ok, I’m committed. I have just purchased 5K+ worth of plane tickets to Iceland.

Someone tell me it’s going to be all right.

Guest house reservations to follow… tomorrow. And I still have to make the domestic flight arrangements. Where is Julie McCoy when you need her?

{{{{Rigs}}}} It’s all going to be good.

It’ll be just fine rigs just fine. Remember you had fun the last time.

gotti it sounds like it may be necessary for you to come down to judge the droolworthiness of pool guy. Just to be fair and get an “objective” opinion and all…

Beastloaf is done, mac & cheese is done. Vegetation steamin’. Rolls in oven. Dindin soon. Bear hongry! OYKW hongry! Beware dindin, you shall be consumed!

Hi! Well, not quite… BTW, all will be just fine. How cold is it in Iceland, anyhow?

This is all we know so far about my coworker’s brother. But he is alive.

Huh–he doesn’t look too good. Does he always look like that? Where was he for a week? Details, we want details!

Sorry about your cold, BooFae. Am having to type one handed due to tendonitis (again) in left thumb. Am wearing splint. Will stop typing now.

Sketties were yum. Bread was yum. Salad didn’t happen.

I think I’m going to go finish my second afghan.

There is a serious lack of chocolate in my digestive system… :frowning:

Today was very interesting.

All of our lunches went well and we both managed to leave the house on time. My mom is about the same. She went to the doctor today and will be off work again tomorrow. They did a bunch of bloodwork and are waiting to see the results.

Some time this afternoon I got a text message from a client about a dinner he has scheduled this week letting me know that a counterpart of his would have to take over because he lost his job very suddenly. :frowning: He’s been my client for almost 5 years and it was a pretty big shock. I feel terrible for him.

As the fb mumpers can see, I’m looking for a name for my fork jewelry business. Suggestions here or there are welcome.

::shoots 60% Cocoa Chocolate Chips through CD drive for FCM::

Glad co-worker’s brother is found, Joolz (BTW: I was thinking maybe you should be Sparkles - Joolz -> Jewels -> Sparkles).

Iceland will be fun, rigs. Which MMP should we pre-schedule you for?

Sorry about your client, Sticky.

Flan Cake has been linked to the blog. I think it sounds yummy. I should also add a recipe my old roommate’s mom invented that is a kind of coconut bread pudding, but made in a ring mold. It can be cooked in a microwave, which is kind of miraculous. It’s easy AND yummy (assuming you like coconut). I haven’t made it in ages.

There was more, but I need to go in search of food.

Back later.

Second afghan is assembled - all that remains is one round as an edge. I’ll do that tomorrow. Lunches are packed, dishes are washed, dogs have just been out to pee. I’m going to scoop the cat box and head to bed.

Oh yes, my life is a thrill a minute…

We’re quiet tonight.

I’ve been busy researching the internets and reupping here. Wound up buying an iPod Touch (I am blaming xash; surely it can’t be my fault!). Also posted a thread to get a good answer for Faraway Best Friend’s husband.

Am considering crawling into bed before starting yet another long workday… :frowning:

Back tomorrow.

Hugs.

Dindin good. Post dindin dip in pool and ummmmmm… “other activities” good. Beerverages also good! Bear sleepified.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Sending healing thoughts to the sick folks - hope you’re all feeling better soonish! Tea with lemon and honey is always soothing for me, if that helps ya at all.

I love the local farmer’s markets! Our very local one hasn’t started up yet but it should be and soon. There is a year-round one on Sundays in Takoma Park but I haven’t been there in a while. I’ll probably make it over there a couple of times during the summer or at least try to. The very local one (a couple of block away) is usually on Tuesdays from 3-6 PM. Very small but all local, mostly produce but often a bakery is there.

My uncle had several acres of land and always planted stuff and sold it at a roadside market just across the road from his home. He passed away nearly two years ago, though, and now his son has teamed up with a cousin (they are both my cousins too LOL) to open a country meats store, and they’ll also have local produce in season and probably fresh eggs, since my cousins keep chickens too. I do wish I were in their area because I would surely patronize the market! They make their own fresh sausage meat. And definitely free range eggs.

Thanks for making the post on this topic, FCM! And everyone enjoy the rest of the week … only three … make that -two- more days until Firday.

Me again.

Spaz just posted over on LJ and said she’s about to move and hopes to join us again in a couple of weeks when she’ll have reliable internet access again. She said she misses us and thought of a certain bear when she bought a 12-pack of TP recently.

Off to bed now.

Really.

I don’t think it’s a good picture, but that was him way before all this happened. As serious as it was, I couldn’t get past the poor man’s name. I just kept thinking of Ricky Bobby.

Swampy, you filled the pool with dindin dip? How many chips did you need for that?

Uh, guess who definitely isn’t eligible for Medicaid? Me.

Guess who might be? Aliens and Refugees who have an emergency situation.

Does anybody see anything wrong with this picture?

Link.

Is she implying that some bear somewhere is full of shit or just formerly full of shit?

If you ever want to pit Medicare/Medicaid I may just add a sentence or two that would make a dockworker blush. With the stuff I’ve learned since Muvver got sick, and all we’ve been through, they are so far in the lead as my “least favorite government agency” that the IRS can hardly be considered in the running.

perk Tell me more, tell me more, like do you have a torch? (I’m mostly sorry for that.)

I’m lucky that I get to commune with lots of super-cool farmers and their produce every week while I sell my shiny things at markets and festivals. I pick up good stuff for us to eat, sometimes I trade, and sometimes I get a screamin’ deal on produce they don’t want to haul home.

I really should’ve taken a photo of my Bing cherry-juice stained hands last summer after my Mom and I pitted two and a half flats of them. We made jam, juice, and what she calls “sauce” and we’re set for a good long while. My vendor buddy up and gave me four flats – it pays to flirt! I gave the rest to the neighbors, who were very happy to take them off my dark purple hands.

I was going to start selling this week, but it looks like the weather isn’t going to cooperate, so I guess it’ll be next week. Any Dopers in the greater Seattle area want to come on by and see me, I’m at the Burien Farmer’s Market on Thursdays from 11a-6p, and the Puyallup Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 9a-2p. I’ll also be a vendor at the Seattle Scottish Highland Games (SSHGA.org) July 31/Aug. 1. Shoot me a PM and I’ll tell you how to find me. The Doper Discount is significant!

I haven’t read yet, but I found out that my divorce will be final on June 2nd at 2:45 pm. Halle-fricken-lujah!!! Only 15 more days!!!
