Okay, I have read, and I just can’t wait until I am able to move back to where the seasons are, well, seasonable. We can’t even grub up the soil yet as it is mud.
I have a pet peeve which Taters brought up. Copper River salmon is a brand name. The very same salmon swim past Kodiak (and we catch a lot of them) on their way to the Copper River. Wild Alaska Salmon is all the same. Don’t be fooled into paying a premium price for the brand name. Those folks fishing the Copper River have hit on a great idea, one which I have been yelling about since I arrived on the island, and I become irritated when I know that the same salmon without the brand name will be thrown away. I had to re-educate my parents on this recently. To soften my peeve, the next time I come down Taters, which will be in the near future, I will be bringing some fish and some of that red gold from the Bering Sea, and perhaps we can have a mini-Dopefest and grill up some salmon, and party down!
It’s late, so g’night everyone. I’ll be back tomorrow. Er, later today. need sleep
I haven’t the time or strength to do that right now. I’m just mystified by this discovery.
Actually, yes. I do have a torch. As a matter of fact when I started making this jewelry, I almost burned down the house with it! :smack: I’m doing much better now. Hereareafewpictures.
My mom is not good, or rather, she isn’t any different than yesterday and this worries me tons. I hope I’m wrong in my amateur diagnosis.
Yay on having a date set, kai! I hope you can come back and visit us more often too.
The chocolate pecan pie went over very well at work yesterday. Although there’s not much that doesn’t!
Today is the Big Day for a couple of my friends - she made it to 35 weeks with triplets and they’re doing a c-section today! Two of the babies were over 5 lbs a week ago, and the third was close… good for the babies but it was 15 lbs that the mama-to-be had inside! And she’s been on bedrest for two months, with the last 6 weeks in the hospital. Yuck. It’s going to be tough getting back on her feet. But hopefully they’ll be able to take the babies home right away since they’re that big and almost full term. I’m just sitting here waiting for a good news email.
kai, I’m so glad that there is a big light at the end of the tunnel!
And, yeah, I know, Copper River is just a “brand name”, but sometimes, ironically, the fish around here just sucks. Perhaps that’s just because I grew up eating salmon, salmon, salmon, trout, trout, trout, steelhead, steelhead, steelhead, smelt, smelt, smelt, and many others ALL. THE. FREAKIN’ TIME. Seriously, we probably ate fish twice a week at a minimum because we had so much in the freezer. We fished…A LOT.
Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and songs! You’ve brightened my day!
Fork the One You Love?
I use spoon bowls as a source for the silver I use for making soldiers crosses; we need to get together and trade material some day.
I want a divorce too!!! Can I have one, can I have one, can I have one??? Huh??? Huh???
Sorry – divorces can be like babies; someone has one and everyone wants one.
Just remember, Kai, it’s better to have loved and lost than to see your former gym teacher on Dateline NBC,
I use the firebox of my smoker and my grill for heat. After cooking I rake the coals around good and add a little more wood and then go to town. For an anvil I use a small block of steel something like a stack of business cards on a stump. What I do is a little different from you - I flatten spoon bowls and hammer out coins to make the sheet silver I make my pieces out of - but you could get enough heat that way to do what needs done. And if you go the next stage and do some castings, going from that to a simple pot forge made from a truck rim isn’t all that tough. I will try to remember to image some of my stuff after the next park event (this weekend) but its patterned after my buddy
Hmmm… Where did you get that? Maybe my last status update on fb? Good idea!
Kopek, that stuff is very cool. Well, I don’t have a smoker so a torch works ok for me. I mainly work with silverplate which is kind of tricky (and easier to scorch).
The doctor just called and my mom’s liver enzymes are elevated and her kidney function is reduced. So he’s taken her off of another medication and is sending her back for some more bloodwork tomorrow. For as bad as that sounds, it’s 20,000 times better than what I feared. But it’s going to be difficult because the one that he took her off of is her arthritis medication.
ETA: Yes, kopek, I want to see your own pictures, too!
