AH AH AH!!! <that’s me, speechless and jumping around> I see VIGGO has also been inspired by Iceland and cannot wait to come home tonight to watch that… <falls into daydream>
But right now I’m late for work. Thanks, GT for the link!

Hi guys!

Yesterday I woke up with a terrible stiff neck. Today is only slightly better, so I took a muscle relaxant. Poke me if I nod off, ok?

Only 1/2 day of work today - I have a dentist appointment at 4:00. Our time off is so weird - I can take a 1/2 day of sick time, but not 1-1/2 hours. I could make up the time, but we’re slow anyway - so might as well take a 1/2 day off, right? Plus tomorrow is my RDO. I have a doctor’s appointment at 8:00 am - fasting - and a boob squishing at 11:00.

I lead such an exciting life, huh?

Happy Belated Birthday, Taters!

Rosie’s sig to all…

I was with one call center who was going to business professional.
[/QUOTE]

At a call center? Talk about bucking a trend - more and more “call centers” are disparate people working at home. Last I knew, about a third of our corporate help desk staff are full-time telecommuters. If your AHT is good, who cares where you work, much less what you wear?

Materland News:
I haz mater! It’s small, and I fear this first one has blossom end rot, but there **is **a green gumdrop-sized baby tomato hanging off the vine.

I started to respond to this last night, but I had an overactive puppy who jumped on my laptop and closed my Firefox window. :smack:

See, now the heels are totally ridiculous. I wear my Birkenstock sandals Monday-Thursday with no problem. Fridays are truly casual: we can wear jeans and tennis shoes. We have what they call a “Finally Friday” drawing: they announce an additional item we can wear, usually t-shirts/sweatshirts, flip-flops or hats, and we pay $1 to be able to wear that. They have a drawing, and the lucky person gets all the money.

I can somewhat understand, because if you’re dressed professionally, you’ll behave more professionally: even if you’re just on the phone. But heels would be crossing a huge line with me.

When I worked at home, I had to dress like I was going into the office. It was the mindset that yes, I was going to work, not to lounge around slurping coffee and watching soaps. But I did voluntarily come back to the office full-time. I like it here.

Oh, and the call center that was going professional? It was owned by a bank. A new bank bought us out, and they decided we needed to dress like their front-line tellers. Just totally stupid.

We don’t have a dress code for work specifically, it’s generally understood that you dress appropriately for your job. Other than that, it’s kind of open to interpretation.

Today I am wearing jeans, t-shirt and flip-flops. I am spending the day in the office, I have no meetings, I am expecting no visitors, my ‘boss’ is off and my immediate line-manager works in a completely different building. Earlier this week we were running rotational exams with a lot of external examiners. Since it was a more professional setting, I was wearing something much smarter than I am today.

If someone was to suggest that everyone in our office should be adopting business professional dress, they’d be laughed off the premises, probably by our head of school who is today wearing t-shirt, cargo trousers and birkenstocks.

When I started at this job, we had to be “business casual”: khakis or similar and a non-tshirt shirt. Every year in the fall they’d raise money for United Way by selling the right to wear jeans for a month or two. So obviously we didn’t need to wear anything nicer than jeans; it was just a way to raise money. Last year, when the UW jeans thing ended in February, they said, “OK, it’s ok to wear jeans all the time now.” Which everyone loves except for the UW people because we raised WAY less money for them this fall without the jeans thing than we had in previous years. But oh well.

We had such a good time visiting with my cousins over the weekend that we’ve decided that we should have a family reunion next year. And since one of my cousins is in Alaska… well, it seems obvious. One of the other cousins thinks it’s a great idea. I know the mother of the cousin in AK will be in. And my dad will think it’s a great idea. But… there’s my mom who hates to travel. I just sent her an email saying, “I know you’re going to hate me, but we want to do this so I’m just giving you a heads-up before we get the ball rolling.” We’ll see how that goes over. I think it’s going to be an awesome trip though. The cousin that I’ve emailed about it said they’ve been thinking about an Alaska cruise, as have we, so I think maybe some of us will cruise one-way from Seattle to Anchorage and meet the rest of the family there. I can’t wait. (Except for getting Mom’s reaction. It’s not her family so she doesn’t have to go if she doesn’t want to. Except she won’t see it that way. ::sigh:: )

Use the handles for rings and flatten the bowls to cut and file into ear-rings? Just saying. But I know what you mean. I have a cigar box of handles that I don’t want to make into rings (I’m in the 1750s market place) but I don’t want to smelt and cast either. Probably still be around for my heirs to deal with.

Da cave is somewhat sanitized. At least no one will catch a communicable disease from bein’ here. I consider that a good thing. Also I have a ham in the slow cooker. Smells hammerific! I’m thinkin’ some steamed asparagus and some scalloped N.O.T. would be good with ham for dindin. Beyond that it’ll be ham sammiches for a couple of days which is also a good thing.

Well folks, we’re here at the ER with my mom. She was supposed to go for bloodwork but was too sick to even go. So we’re here waiting for bloodwork results and an EKG machine is just about to roll in.

Sticky, we’ll be praying: hope all works out.

We’ve got a weird couple of weeks ahead: everybody has a doctor appointment. Hubby has a bad sinus infection: daughter is going to her new endocrinologist for the first time: son has to have his stitches removed: I’m trying to get in to see my OB-GYN, my MIL has to go see her doctor, and our puppy needs vaccinations! Thank God for insurance!

VWife’s dogbite stitches came out yesterday.

Keeping your mom and you in my thoughts, Sticky.

Hugs to your mom. Good thoughts heading your way.

Prayers headed out, Buns.
It’s hot and Gnat’s at my parents for the day, so I could goof off. Instead I’ve swept and mopped, made granola, and am baking ten loaves of bread.

In spite of my cooking frenzy I don’t know what to make for dinner. We’re practically out of meat and canned tomatoes, so I’m going to have to ponder. We’ve had a lot of pasta recently. I could do carrot ginger soup, maybe. With fresh bread. Hmm.

Mac & cheese is my go-to, but if you’ve had a lot of pasta, that probably doesn’t help. Order takeout.

[whine] I haven’t gotten pictures of the new triplets yet! It’s been more than 24 hours! What are those new parents up to?? [/whine]

Prayers and good thoughts headed out StickyBuns.

I hung out at the pool for a while cause it’s so nice out. Warm but not super hot and the water feels so good. While I was out there, OYKW called to let me know he has decided he needs to take tomorrow off so we can hang out together just the two of us. and  Da bear is likin’ that idea!

Thanks, guys, for the good wishes. I’m back at home because I have a dinner tonight but just as I was leaving they took her for an ultrasound of her liver. They think one of the medicines that she was on is causing a problem. If somebody could make this water boil faster, I’d really appreciate it! And, no, I’m not watching it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Did they take an ultrasound of some fava beans and a nice chianti?

Good news: I hope a medicine adjustment takes care of the problem!
