I didn’t know who Howard Jarvis was, didn’t know anything about his career or Prop 13, (still don’t actually) and have no idea why they used him and not anyone else, because his scene isn’t about ‘Howard Jarvis’, but just some random taxi fare, but his last line in the film was funny then and is still funny today.
Another little tidbit. Jimmy “JJ” Walker was the only actor to be credited in both Airplane! and the Airport movies. (The Concorde - Airport 79)
Whoa, I’m not sure I’d put Airport ‘79 on my resume. The best part of that movie is Leonard Maltin’s review which ends Thank God Charo’s around for believability!.
How many more lives, lives, lives!
But he was just a ham, ham, ham…
I wonder how many kids recognize the spoof of Point/Counterpoint: “Let them die!”. The segments ran on 60 Minutes from 1971 to 1979, so they were already fading from memory when the movie was released a few years later.
