Nah. I think a good portion of the winners were genuinely good people including JT from last year, Fireman Tom, Earl, Aras and Bob. And as much as you may hate Boston Rob, he was a “good guy” in that he was honest and hardworking and Amber was a nice person too.
I’d go so far as to say that the really terrible people like Fat Russell and Ben (Yasmin is just annoying, not a bad person yet) never even sniff the end game. We just remember the ones that do better because evil people stand out in Survivor more.
I love Boston Rob and Amber almost as much as Liberal pretended to in the Amazing Race threads. I wouldn’t go so far as to describe them as good guys, but I had a shit ton of respect for them and just genuinely liked them.
Yeah, JT. Good call. He’s exactly that kind of person I was talking about. Thanks for the reminder. And Fireman Tom was practically a comic book character in a white hat he was so chock full of goodness, but I don’t think he won.
Cool. You’ve really helped restore my faith in Survivor, at least in general. Hopefully someone emerges this season, though right now I’m not optimistic.
The first four or five episodes are rarely about the people who the show ends up being about as the season develops. The folks we’re going to turn out to like and root for are still flying under the radar right now.
Hang in there! ('Cause between Ben and RussHole, it does require a fair amount of faith, I agree.)
So far, we’ve met one douchebag, one racist moron, one condescending walking talking stereotype, one clueless mullet and a couple of seemingly nice guys (Jaison, for instance). Meanwhile, they’ve eliminated one babe and one sensible person with an interesting background.
I know everybody loved Tom, but I thought he was a dick. He had mad skillz and was a good competitor, and I honestly don’t begrudge him the win, but I didn’t like the way he treated other people and I think he screwed DolphinBoy on the final challenge by playing the “you owe me” card. Good gameplay, but a dick move for somebody beloved as a white-hatted hero.
I can’t believe I still carry a grudge about reality tv from years ago.
There were rumors of an All-Star season of Survivor being filmed in Samoa shortly after the current season wrapped up. There is a good chance that it is still going on.
Survivor - Tsunami would be a sweet return to the original concept of Survivor, especially after this season decided to become Big Brother.
Honestly, if they are there, I hope everyone is OK. I also hope they got some amazing footage of the Tsunami.
There was an earthquake and a tsunami in Samoa today, link, and the OP is speculating that Survivor was filming a season in Samoa at the time. I don’t mean to spank the Lamar, but I’d be fine hearing more about how the Samoans are doing for now, and less about a television series.
Someday I may actually watch Survivor on Thursday night, or even Friday, and therefore be able to participate in the discussion in a more timely manner…
But anyhow, I was surprised that Betsy knew full well she was about to be voted out, yet did virtually nothing to try to save herself. Same as Marisa last week, but even more glaringly obvious. With absolutely nothing to lose, why would she not go to every other tribe member with her doubts about RussHole? And/or make a more compelling argument against BenHole at TC than “I don’t understand why I’m on the chopping block and not Ben”? What the hell was that? I liked Betsy but she seemed to roll over and give up at the end, which was disappointing.
So it does appear that RussHole’s plan may be starting to unravel on him already this week. On the other hand, a misleading edit on “Next time on Survivor” is not exactly without precedent.
Finally, I’m holding out hope that a “nice” person to root for will emerge. Mick and Jaison seem decent enough, as does other-Russell. (Though Mick seems a bit clueless so far, it may be just a ruse.) And there are a number of Purples we just haven’t seen enough of yet to tell.
Oh, and purple team? There’s a purple team? I thought there was just ShamWow in a purple mullet holder, and then a bunch of extras that show up to beat them at a challenge.
I have a gut feeling that Jaison’s “him or me” is actually Ben. Especially after the racist claptrap that fell out of Ben’s mouth last week. Jaison visibly winced when Ben described whatshername as “ghetto trash”.
ETA: Let me rephrase that…it appears that Jaison visibly winced when etc etc etc. Knowing how the editors work, I’m allowing that it’s entirely possible that EVERY tribal reaction to the Ben/Bigmouth fight was actually from some other context with the shouting dubbed in. But I’ll take it on face value for now.
Odd grammar aside, It almost seems like this author has an axe to grind against Survivor for some reason.
The show probably didn’t cause the earthquake; one doesn’t really have anything to do with the other. Of course I’m sympathetic to the victims, but I don’t see what’s in “bad taste” about having filmed a TV show in a place before something bad happened nearby, or even filming again afterward. The author goes on to (somewhat scoldingly, IMO) note that “For now, CBS still seems set on airing Survivor: Samoa in its regular schedule.” I think not airing it would be a ridiculous overreaction.
That article was one I picked at random; there were any number I googled up that speculated about this Thursday’s episode being delayed, and/or a public service announcement included during the broadcast asking viewers to donate to quake relief.
